I would go with Len too who was an Australian.
Report elise June 16, 2025 6:52 PM BST
len also did the football results, a well known voice but no one knew what he looked like, if you think football scores even now you hear his voice if you are older than 40
Report Cardinal Scott June 16, 2025 6:54 PM BST
John Hamner occasionally would sub for Len

I'd be sat by my grandad's armchair as he marked off his Littlewoods Pools coupon to those scores.
I'd then retreat behind the armchair to watch Doctor Who and the daleks afterwards.
Those Cybermen were also the scariest fo0kersPlain

Can't be sure on the betting shows voice but remember Graham Rock was their betting guide person and paddock commentator.
Report elise June 16, 2025 7:09 PM BST
he was very odd, the funniest time was during x country, in those days they'd send us out the side gates round some fields and a golf course and then back in through the other end up the school drive, he hid his mask under a teachers car and when he returned up the drive he was a storm trooper, got caned for that one

Reminded me of sitting there waiting for the ceefax page to update the results, waiting through 10 pages. Cry

Report TINnotaTON June 16, 2025 8:20 PM BST
Thats correct leif, it was the 5 to 10 sports desk with the evening racing results at the end. Remember in / from the mid to late eighties, william hill used to do a full results service on the phone, it was free, 158 or 168 i think, used to call that regular if i hadn't caught the results during the day, sometimes in the early hours after a night out. Loads of sh**te tht i miss from the old days, teletex probably the biggest.
