You've just promoted the sport massively 1sttp by having to go back 40yrs to find a negative , to the untrained eye the likes of Novak , Rafa and Roger may come across as boring simply because they're on the screen a lot being successful so winning far more than their fair share.

Certainly no fitter sportsmen on the planet than tennis players but the cream as in other sports are long odds to win popularity contests as it doesn't gel with being mega successful.

If anything was going to go against Sinner it was lack of a grueling 5 set match after the lay off , not dropped a set before today but in hindsight could have done with dropping a few.

Best two players now by some distance and personally think Sinner the better covering all surfaces as will be proven over time , Carlos sees this court as his own back yard though and massive kudos for the comeback from dead.

williams was offered the chance to play a geezer 10 years ago and wasnt having it. she knows

it wont ever happen as wimmins tennis would be shown up. not that im advocating or want it, its just the equality money is bollox

the geezer i spoke of played anna keethavong when she was 21 and brit n01 or 2 and was beating her 6-0 when she chucked it in. and he was not even a recognised player with a ranking. he says its the speed around the court that really kills it. they dont have the instant power and speed that the men do and any hal-decent shot leaves them floundering but a reasonable male player would chase it down relatively easily

not the point. people are entirely free to prefer or enjoy anything they like, within reason

but putting out a fiction about the equalisation of rewards for different sports is dishonest as wimmins sport doesnt drive revenues so spare us the more pay nonsense and enjoy what it is. no problem

as an unusual aside, im a lover of the rugby league in aus. incredible and the toughest comp in the world. but i also luv watching the ladies teams. they try so hard but arent really built for it
Report Hayden June 9, 2025 8:11 PM BST
I watch every live NRL game on Sky mitolo and thoroughly enjoy them.

Couldn't agree more that the equal pay is unfair on the men in any sport but tbh don't lose sleep over that kind of stuff , if they can get it good luck to them especially if someone is daft enough to pay it.

That aside i love ladies tennis for trading and without a betting strategy i'm not sure if any of us would watch a tenth of the sport we do if we're honest , as for Golf , soccer and boxing if played in the garden i'd draw the curtains.

Good luck chaps   Happy

coz i'd be astonished if that was the case...

in fact i wouldn't believe it quite frankly.
Report HappyHibby June 9, 2025 8:19 PM BST
for starters there ain't equal pay within the EPL in any case...

some folk get 100k per week...

some folk get 350k per week...

so i'm not sure where this 'equal pay' in football (for example) is coming from tbh.
Report mitolo June 9, 2025 8:20 PM BST
theres a dedicated nrl channel on the dipstick haydn that shows every game, not just those on sky, and all the other stuff that goes with it. hence me watching it at 7 am this morn and getting out of bed at 5 pm this afternoon. that has gone on since thursday

Report mitolo June 9, 2025 8:25 PM BST
er.. no i wasnt saying that. that would be quite a claim

but there are rumblings of dissatisfaction in rugby and cricket about lack of cash for the wimmin. i shouldnt have used 'equality' as that only happens in tennis

but the wimmins sports generally lose money
Report HappyHibby June 9, 2025 8:28 PM BST
tbh i'm like Hayden on this...

i either like watching a sporting event or i don't...

i don't watch a lassies football match and think 'do they deserve equal pay as the men ?' (international football for example)...

women's Euro's coming up...

i will more than likely watch every match...

The Dog and Duck Sunday League team would probably beat them but i ain't fussed about that...

i just take it for what it is and hope to see an enjoyable game...

Total prize money at this year's Wimbledon will increase by 7% to a record £53.5m.

The prize pot, worth £50m in 2024, is double the £26.5m on offer in 2015.

Carlos Alcaraz and Barbora Krejcikova each took home £2.7m for winning the men's and women's singles titles respectively last year.

This year's winners will receive £3m, an increase of 11%.

Players knocked out in the first round will receive £66,000, an increase of 10%.

There will be a 4% increase for the men's and women's doubles winners, who will earn £680,000, and a 3% increase for the mixed doubles winners, to £135,000.

The All England Lawn Tennis Club also confirmed the full introduction of live electronic line calling.

The technology, trialled in part last year, will end Wimbledon's 147-year use of line judges.

More than 400 cameras have been installed across the courts.

Wimbledon runs from 30 June to 13 July.
