Chances of telling it how it is ....33/1. That was a poor ride by Harry (drifted mind you)

let's be honest...

when ex-jockeys come on board it's obvious how it will pan out...

it's the telly head honchos who are actually the ones to blame imv.

It looks a rogue to me.
Jacobs is definitely not going to rock the boat and offers little

they know exactly what they are getting...

which is why they get the gigs imv.

if anyone remembers a few years ago...

RTV was actually ADVERTISING on their channel for ex-jockeys to come on board...

they encouraged it...

tells you everything you need to know about what sort of folk they want 'scrutinising' (yes i know it's laughable) the game.
Report MJK June 4, 2025 7:16 PM BST
The guy presenting has become very good at criticising a ride without actually calling it out. Noticed it a few times recently with him. Fair play to him for at least saying things like 'won't want to look back at his ride there' etc.

irons...

i've always said...

it's the telly head honchos who have the power...

pundits are scared $h1tless to say anything 'controversial' coz they are fully aware they will probably be shown the door if they do...

so even tho i have a pop at the pundits...

it's actually the telly head honchos i have the beef with.
Report HappyHibby June 4, 2025 7:41 PM BST
in saying that...

it doesn't excuse pundits going way OTT about jockeys/trainers...

they are all great...

all wonderful people...

very very rarely does any of them get any sort of negative remarks at all...

never mind anything 'controversial'...

when was the last time any of them said 'poor ride from jockey X' ?

Martin Dwyer said it recently and i gave him credit for it...

few and far between tho.

It is simply life today Hibby.

Report HappyHibby June 4, 2025 7:47 PM BST

its strange isnt it ? footballers get all sorts of grief and come out to do their interviews . presumably they are contracted to do so . but as anyone ever , really found any worthwhile gems from interviews jockeys do ? ...i'm struggling to remember any on tv . i've met a few in private and that was very different !
Report HappyHibby June 4, 2025 7:53 PM BST
the only reason i can think that telly head honchos don't want their pundits to notice anything bad or iffy is...

coz they probably feel that if jockeys or trainers get criticism they won't do interviews...

so what ffs...

they have nowtto say anyway...

if they want to take the huff and not do any interviews then so be it...

it's madness...

it's one of the reasons i withdrew my RTV subscription.
Report uptheirons June 4, 2025 7:57 PM BST
It goes far deeper than that hibby.
I know for a fact that Trainers are told by the BHA not to ever mention that one of their "certainties" may have  been got at
Report HappyHibby June 4, 2025 8:15 PM BST
my thoughts on the BHA are well documented tbh irons...

when someone (who is very well qualified) goes for a job in the Integrity Department...

and immediately they are told 'thanx but no thanx'...

you know what the agenda is.

another unaccountable, faceless, unelected weapon of the bureaucratic authoritarian state. less

Having jockeys who are perma positive isn't terrible if there's some contrast.

There are three very good judges imv in the rtv ranks, ahead of the rest, and one of them is a former jockey (Berry). He doesn't try to pretend that people don't line up gambles.

There is a huge difference between a poor ride and a nefarious one, pundits should be able to point out the poor ones even if they can't say anything about the dodgy ones.

I don't mind them giving someone a go, but if they are not prepared to say anything/are as dull as ditchwater, then just get rid. Instead it's a cast iron job for life. It really needs a complete overhaul in terms of attitude. They are just broadcasting for those within the sport. They presumably just have an application form with a single box that says cheerleader. Yes, you'll do.
Report GEORGE.B June 4, 2025 10:15 PM BST
When Racing UK started, what percentage of the pundits were ex-jockeys? It must have been between 0 and 5%?

It's a now a 'retirement home' for them with a pension thrown in!

One pundit I remember from the early days was the trainer Ian 'the horse has got worser legs than Douglas Bader' Semple.
Report HappyHibby June 5, 2025 6:52 AM BST
Semple did that programme that was on Sky Sports GEORGE...

i think it was ATR but for a Monday night at Windsor Sky Sports basically duplicated it for their channel...

i definitely remember Semple doing it with Jeff Stelling and Alex Hammond at one stage...

i think Mcririck did it also.

----------------------------------------------------------------

you are clearly correct dd...

BUT we both know that won't happen...

the telly head honchos know full well that when they get ex-jockeys on board they will 'not notice' any wrongdoing or any bad rides...

with the very very rare exception...

it's treating their audience with total contempt quite frankly...

which is why i decided to stop giving them my money (amongst other things)...

the whole game is just an illusion (as has been said many times)...

it's simply to create a 'isn't racing wonderful...full of wonderful human beings who are all trying 100% all of the time'...

it's obvious to folk like us what is going on...

and i'm afraid to say the only thing WE can do is withdraw our support of the channels via subscription fee...

i keep going back to this but...

Peter Harris...

two gigs...

said a few things that sailed close to the wind...

never to be seen again...

tells me everything i need to know about the agenda of racing telly channels.

Hibby, I didn't know Semple had been a pundit on The Winning Post too. I seem to recall Jonathan Neesom starting out on the old ATR / Racing Channel.

Funnily enough I came across this old clip from The Winning Post the other day on twitter, which I think must have been after Shiva had won the Brigadier Gerrard in 2000, Henry Cecil being interviewed by Jeff Stelling.

Cecil, sporting an upper cut injury given to him by a 'filly', had described Shiva as having been crippled after racing on quick ground previously. Stelling asked: Did you think you'd get her back? To which Cecil replied: Well she's back Grin
