I thought that jockeys had to be declared at the same time as the horse at the 48 hour stage. Every other trainer apart from Aiden O'Brien does so. How does he get away with delaying his decision? Total contempt for the sport, punters and the BHA authorities. Either it is a rule or it is not so impose sanctions if a rule is broken.

all about the lads getting the best prices on offer
Report sageform June 4, 2025 11:32 AM BST
The BHA rule actually says 1pm on the day of declaration so it should be clear who is riding what by then. Interesting that no other flat trainer ever takes advantage of the extra 3 hours to keep the markets guessing.

The TBC jockeys could be having their breakfast.
Report differentdrum June 4, 2025 11:43 AM BST
I agree jocks should have been up before the draw was made, and tough if you didn't like it. Unfortunately, there are those who think O'Brien can do no wrong.

So Mr o brien isn't breaking any rules or am I missing something
Report elise June 4, 2025 11:50 AM BST
no he's not breaking any rules
Report 1st time poster June 4, 2025 11:52 AM BST

Ryan Moore on Delacroix
Colin Keane on The Lion in Winter
Wayne Lordon on Lambourn
Report impossible123 June 4, 2025 12:18 PM BST
Not a surprise there. The lion In Winter needs a miracle to win from stall 16. I hope Keane rides with his thinking cap on from stall 16.
Report differentdrum June 4, 2025 12:24 PM BST
Lordan is second jock and has ridden The Lion In Winter before. He will know far more about him than Keane. I think the horse is just making up the numbers. Will be surprised if he even finished halfway. Likely never in contention, and eased down just like the Dante. Question then as to whether you see him again.

I think lordan is very weak in a finish a decent jockey without the power to be top class, seems to be part of the furniture at ballydoyle.
Report 1st time poster June 4, 2025 12:29 PM BST
needs more than a fooking miracle, needs a crash diet to fit in stall 16 with the horse drawn in 16,,TLIW is in stall 19
Report Hayden June 4, 2025 12:41 PM BST
That's what a top class professional trainer should be doing , take time to make the correct decisions whilst remaining within the rules.

Any other thinking is from some looking for another way to bring Aidan back to the pack instead of urging the also rans to make some inroads on the dominance.
Report unitedbiscuits June 4, 2025 12:44 PM BST
Ryan Moore on Minnie Hauk. Disappointing for me as I have a bet running on to Whirl. Wayne Lordan on her.
Report differentdrum June 4, 2025 12:46 PM BST
As if O'Brien hasn't got enough advantages. Stand by the original comment that jocks should come before the draw. If that's a loophole just close it.
Report sageform June 4, 2025 1:11 PM BST
19 is a big field by modern standards. There will be some hard luck stories. If delaying rider bookings is an advantage, why don't other trainers do it? Presumably because none of them have more than 2 runners or see no point in it. O'Brien jockeys still not up on the RP racecard. Have they bunged them to delay it even further?
Report elise June 4, 2025 1:14 PM BST
no sage, the rp is just slow, they are declared

Sageform - Willie Mullins declares his jockeys very late for the festival
Report BALLSEYE June 4, 2025 3:03 PM BST
Aiden was not happy about the 72 hour declaration, arguing that a lot can happen in 48 hours to a horse let alone 72 hours.Given the embarassment of riches he has at his disposal and his attention to every last detail it is not surprising that he employs every last minute he is allowed to finalise his plans. That said his comments about Delacroix and Ryan Moore made it reasonably obvious who he thought was his prime contender.
Report sageform June 4, 2025 3:27 PM BST
Twoboyz, I know Willie Mullins does the same thing but I was concentrating on Epsom when I wrote the OP. Aiden and Willie have the same mentality. We are trying to squeeze the last pound/euro out of every race and to hell with anyone else.
Report 1st time poster June 4, 2025 3:37 PM BST
if AOB really wants ryan on one,and changes his mind due to going, travel etc in next 72 hrs  ,he,d just pull the one ryans currently riding out, wouldnt he ?
that works doesnt it ?
Report sageform June 4, 2025 3:41 PM BST
There are a list of circumstances when a jockey change is permitted but they should be checked by BHA. Whether they are or not I have no idea.
Report impossible123 June 4, 2025 6:41 PM BST
I can understand if the mount of the stable jock is withdrawn and the jock gets on another stablemate; the battalion advantage is reduced. But, no jock change solely on account of the weather - no swap.
Report Ramruma June 4, 2025 7:00 PM BST
Not many lady riding grooms. None, in fact.

I'd rather have Hollie Doyle than some of these, and imo Jamie Spencer is a complete liability round Epsom so heaven help those drawn next to him.

Here is the field in draw order from the Racing Post:-

Rogue Impact (stall 1) Luke Morris
Stanhope Gardens (2) Hector Crouch
Lazy Griff (3) Christophe Soumillon
Midak (4) Mickael Barzalona
Nightwalker (5) Tom Marquand
Tuscan Hills (6) David Egan
Ruling Court (7) William Buick
Green Storm (8) Billy Loughnane
Nightime Dancer (9) Jamie Spencer
Lambourn (10) Wayne Lordan
Tornado Alert (11) Oisin Murphy
Tennessee Stud (12) Dylan Browne McMonagle
Al Wasl Storm (13) David Probert
Delacroix (14) Ryan Moore
Damysus (15) James Doyle
Pride Of Arras (16) Rossa Ryan
New Ground (17) Alexis Pouchin
Sea Scout (18) Harry Davies
The Lion In Winter (19) Colin Keane
Report impossible123 June 4, 2025 7:35 PM BST
Is Keane any good at Epsom? He's on 2 of my selections eg TLIW and Giselle.
