I thought that jockeys had to be declared at the same time as the horse at the 48 hour stage. Every other trainer apart from Aiden O'Brien does so. How does he get away with delaying his decision? Total contempt for the sport, punters and the BHA authorities. Either it is a rule or it is not so impose sanctions if a rule is broken.
The BHA rule actually says 1pm on the day of declaration so it should be clear who is riding what by then. Interesting that no other flat trainer ever takes advantage of the extra 3 hours to keep the markets guessing.

I agree jocks should have been up before the draw was made, and tough if you didn't like it. Unfortunately, there are those who think O'Brien can do no wrong.

Lordan is second jock and has ridden The Lion In Winter before. He will know far more about him than Keane. I think the horse is just making up the numbers. Will be surprised if he even finished halfway. Likely never in contention, and eased down just like the Dante. Question then as to whether you see him again.

That's what a top class professional trainer should be doing , take time to make the correct decisions whilst remaining within the rules.
Any other thinking is from some looking for another way to bring Aidan back to the pack instead of urging the also rans to make some inroads on the dominance.

19 is a big field by modern standards. There will be some hard luck stories. If delaying rider bookings is an advantage, why don't other trainers do it? Presumably because none of them have more than 2 runners or see no point in it. O'Brien jockeys still not up on the RP racecard. Have they bunged them to delay it even further?

Aiden was not happy about the 72 hour declaration, arguing that a lot can happen in 48 hours to a horse let alone 72 hours.Given the embarassment of riches he has at his disposal and his attention to every last detail it is not surprising that he employs every last minute he is allowed to finalise his plans. That said his comments about Delacroix and Ryan Moore made it reasonably obvious who he thought was his prime contender.

Twoboyz, I know Willie Mullins does the same thing but I was concentrating on Epsom when I wrote the OP. Aiden and Willie have the same mentality. We are trying to squeeze the last pound/euro out of every race and to hell with anyone else.

if AOB really wants ryan on one,and changes his mind due to going, travel etc in next 72 hrs ,he,d just pull the one ryans currently riding out, wouldnt he ? that works doesnt it ?

I can understand if the mount of the stable jock is withdrawn and the jock gets on another stablemate; the battalion advantage is reduced. But, no jock change solely on account of the weather - no swap.

I'd rather have Hollie Doyle than some of these, and imo Jamie Spencer is a complete liability round Epsom so heaven help those drawn next to him.
