First racing book I ever bought along with those of Mr Potts.....that's all I needed

I'll read more or less anything that's been printed on the subject and I really enjoyed both the Potts books - but I distinctly remember feeling a bit anti-climatical and disappointed when I read Clive Holt and also Stewart Simpson. There's usually a snippet that resonates or sticks in your mind in all of them though tbf.

I know what you mean. But like you say, there tends to be a little snippet of something that resonates or has some value to you . It's never a complete waste of time reading Racing books or although some on here might disagree with me on that.
The last book I read about Horse Racing was Horseplayers: Life at the Track by Ted McClelland It won't help your betting in any meaningful way but I found it an enjoyable read and I like the Author's writing style. Of course, its based on the American Racing scene but seeing as I take an interest in US Horse Racing this didn't put me off reading it. |

Yeah, even the ones you don't like or enjoy are an insight into somebody else's way of thinking or approaching things - so even if you didn't agree or get much from it, that might still spark a different thought of your own - and in the days when pre-race was the only game in town, I enjoyed that.
I think my issue/disappointment (feeling a bit robbed!) with C.H. and S.S. was probably that you could have summarised them both on just one sheet of A4 paper! ![]() |

Is it still producing the goods, Top? How does it measure up to the Betfair Holy Grail Cistern?

Did they have other books in the series? I think I can remember one of these and it had Pat Eddery on the front cover? The systems weren't much good but there were some interesting ideas on staking in the final chapter.
