John and Thady need look no farther that the Balding school of flat jockeys. So far today, Probert, Murphy and now Davies have won good races and Buick, Watson, Hornby, Rawlinson and Hutchinson also holding their own! No other yard can boast so many riders who have started there as 7lb claimers who are now in the top 30.
Watson sacked from 2 jobs hornby jock off a 100 times Rawlinson/hutch ? Davis star has fell through the floor from been considered next superstar Buick not available Murphy going to jail so you think PROBERT should be JG,s number 1

Best available in the last week has been Rab Havlin, Benoit and Luke Catton. Just one winner for the yard in that time. So despite what they say, they do need jockeys who are riding out in the yard for inexperienced horses. Perhaps they need to follow the Balding model and bring on their own apprentices although that takes a long time. The issue with best available is that Ryan Moore, William Buick and Oisin Murphy are not often available in Group races as O'Brien, Godolphin and Balding have first claim. Other than Hollie, a perfectly good choice, who else has anyone got in mind? Hector Crouch is one who might accept the chance but I don't think John Gosden is in the mood to make a new commitment any time soon.

Clarehaven is not Ballydoyle or Godolphin and does not have the deep-pockets or firepower of the other two; Clarehaven is supported by a myriad of rich and powerful owners most with their own retained jockeys. As such, a stable jockey for Clarehaven is merely in name only with limited opportunity and number of horses to ride.
I think the 2nd jockey at Ballydoyle has more opportunity than the stable jockey at Clarehaven.

It's testament to the decline in the appeal of our racing that the flow of big name foreign jocks coming here to ride on a permanent basis ceased yonks ago. Scobie and George Moore in the 60's, then the decade after Sangster brought over Cauthen, then in the 80's Brent Thomson, followed by Cash to Ballydoyle who flopped there before hitting it off in France. Then we had Mouse Roberts ( can't remember who brought him over but he'd previously had a small stint with Gavin Hunter), and a few other South Africans / Aussies. In times past Gosden would perhaps had looked to far away shores to fill the position.

Did Piggott not toy with Cauthen on Commanche Run in the Leger? Did Cauthen lose the race as a result of his lesser inexperience on British tracks? Was Cauthen sacked or verbally criticised publicly?

Clive Brittain used Mouse a lot but not sure who brought him over. Just not the prize money here any more to attract overseas jocks. I agree that Probert could do the job but I can't see the big owners accepting him. Juddmonte and Cheveley park will have a big say as Godolphin and others have their own jockeys.
