Hard to imagine what the appeal is. Marketing racing as a team game is tried regularly and always fails.
Each of the 12 jockeys will compete for points under their own individual team branding and will ride in the same silks at each of the six-race fixtures. In addition to being shareholders in the league, the 12 jockeys will own equity in their team and act as team principal for their franchise. Organisers are now seeking to secure commercial partners for the overall competition and its 12 teams, with the aim of securing a total prize fund of $15 million within two years.
And btw, if this is to appeal to a younger audience, should the organisers not have checked the jockeys' ages?
Frankie & Yutaka Take are both well into their 50s; none are in their teens or twenties.

it will not appeal to any audience and is another waste of money like the david power bollox
hard to credit anyone in racing thinks this is a goer. ive never met a wagon who givsash1t about jokeys
a common theme among mugs is they are excessively interested in who the jokey is and the tiny number of those who win are not

All racing needs to do is encourage syndicates small owners, raise prize money and have vibrant Tote. Literally thats it and yet they think this is the answer.

Good to see this new competition is addressing the dire state of female weighing rooms as covered in the Post recently, by, erm, not involving any female jockeys. How very 1950s of them.

the league's races will not be framed to attract the sport's best horses or compete with existing Pattern races. https://www.racingpost.com/news/britain/frankie-dettori-ryan-moore-and-william-buick-among-12-riding-stars-signed-up-to-new-15m-global-racing-league-aMnvu7o9GksI/
Yeah because since when has racing been about great horses?

one of the problems with these pathetic ventures is that the racing media just does what it nearly always does (99.99999% tbh)...
say it's great and it will be fantastic to see the big crowds and big betting pools etc...
(secretly and amongst themselves they are saying 'what a load of tosh' of course)...
all about vested interests and hoping they will get a slice of the pie...
hideous.

there's a fake beach party and a swimming pool on the inner of the track...
this will really boost racing in years to come...
what do you think ?

More dosh for the very rich and that's about all this will achieve.
Using jocks as a selling point is a nonsense. Always has been, and always will be, and they choose to do this at a time when the weighing room is rock bottom.
These are the people who push punters away from the sport, not attract them. They need to appreciate that betting is key. If I was starting betting I would probably walk away given the number of times these jocks mess up. If you listen to the media there is no such thing as a bad ride. Yes, make every excuse in the book, but don't blame the jock. It's laughable. I listened to Dixon the other day, and instead of criticising Shoemark, he suggested it was a great ride from Buick. No it wasn't it was an ordinary ride, he just did what he is paid handsomely to do, no more than that. Fortunately, I can still just about turn a profit. The vast majority won't and they will soon get fed up of losing and either give up or try another sport.
The media, and the sport in general don't give two hoots about the punter. It's all about presenting a cheerleading voice for those within the sport.

Its amazing really. Listening to Barry Hearn regards snooker and moving from Crucible was a real eye opener. He essentially said its his duty to get the players more money and if that means playing in the Middle Eas

when a horse leaves a trainer and moves on to another one (having done poorly at the original trainer)...
they say something like 'it's left it's previous trainer and gone to David Evans (for example)...
in other words they are $h1t scared to name the previous trainer it has done 'poorly' at...
it's really embarrassing tbh.
oh you are spot on 6699...and has anyone noticed what they all do now ?when a horse leaves a trainer and moves on to another one (having done poorly at the original trainer)...they say something like 'it's left it's previous trainer and gone to David
I think Harvey's epitaph will be all trainers are in form.
And we all know there is no hope of change. The media needs to separate itself, not ingratiate itself within the sport.
I listened to Persad 'interviewing' Buick and I don't think I have ever heard a more embarrassing fan boy interview. Buick was clearly embarrassed and had to remind him it was about the horses.

in all honesty dd i very rarely listen to any of that stuff...
it's hard enough listening to the gushing pre-race comments from folk like Dan What's his face (does the Northern circuit) on every trainer/jockey and owner who ever walked this land...
listening to post-race interviews with jockeys would see me heading to the Forth Road Bridge tbh...
and i'd get a taxi instead of a bus tbh.

Nicola Currie (we might soon be saying who) has had a pop describing it as 'ridiculous'. That wouldn't have been so bad had she just stopped there, but unfortunately, she went on to say because there were no female jockeys. That would be about the only thing that could have made it more ridiculous.

One forumite kept a record of Channel 4 pundits' naps and at least two of them (Jim & John) were well in profit.
Big Mac on Channel 4 might have been amusing but he got old and did not change with the times. He did immense damage to racing as his loony right wing and misogynist schtick alienated advertisers and eventually broadcasters.

and i for one would suggest that is not a good place for the sport to be in.

But I agree the sport could use more questioning of power. It should not be down to this particular thread on the Betfair forum to point out what a bad idea is this new league.
