A bit of fact checking is in order before throwing insults around pandora.
Luke Harvey went to the local comprehensive and left at 16 years old. Oli Bell won a drama scholarship to Oundle boarding school . Neither have the background that you describe. In an interview Oli stated that "When i started there was the Betfair forum and i remember being told never to read that". Sound advice i'd say. |

You’ve got to be kidding about Bell, son of a ‘sports presenter’ (Rupert Bell) strange that.. Nephew of Michael Bell and great grandson of chief of MI6, so I think you can safely say he is from a ‘privileged’ background

drama scholarship ... made me laugh

As if proof were needed that the "advice " i mentioned above was sound, along comes CC. Do you understand what "winning" a scholarship means Capt ?
His dad (Rupert) split up with his mother when he was only 3 years old and he had nothing to do with him for years, he grew up with his mothers side of the family, not his fathers. It wasn't the typical privileged upbringing that you allude to. |

Not sure who you keep appealing to when you call ‘new’ forum members foockin idiots? Perhaps it is to fellow members of the betfair forum brains trust?

Glasgow - further underlining the point -there is no need to be abusive, i was clearly stating that people in Oli Bells position are indeed well served in swerving forums such as this which have their fair share of knee jerkers who often post before thinking.
You ask why are all these newbies effin idiots ? I would suggest that having read your contribution that they doubtless wish to be in similar company, thats why. I have stated previously that i was one of those who was able to join recently having NEVER been able to before, but if it pleases you to throw around accusations of multiple user names then feel free if it amuses you, little minds and all that. |

Oli bell is no different from anyone else imo, I would take long odds on he and most of the ITV crew still read the forum.
Out of interest what was B/f reason for not allowing you to join. ?? |
|
By:
To be fair, if you are named, or are the Son of someone named Rupert you are on the back foot to begin with, Oli's done well to fight back from that handicap.

Of course they all read The Forum but they refer to it as Social Media never ever by The Betfair Forum.

I dont mind the name Rupert tbh, its not Algernon or Tarquin, we had a Scrap man / car dismantler live near us called Rupert.

There was some message about not accepting new joiners (or something similar) when i tried a couple of times in the past.
I hadn't actually used the site that much for betting for a while until recently so maybe that had something to do with it. I did have my doubts about receiving an invitation to join on April 1st.... |

CaptainCristy -- Just so happens that he gets a job as a sports presenter, blow me down if his Dad is also a sports presenter, what an amazing co-incidence.
One advantage his dad gave him is the simple knowledge that being a sports presenter is a viable and accessible career. Most of us growing up just think in terms of what our parents and our mates' parents do. But actually Oli Bell's story is funnier than you make out. Apparently RUK did not clock Oli's family tree until later, so it is not nepotism. Let him tell the story:- "It was only after they offered me the job that they realised I was Michael's nephew, which vindicated the fact I didn't get it because of my family ties. I can see why some people do because racing is so unique and it's in people's blood but I was pleased I didn't just ask someone to get me a job. I feel I worked hard and did it the right way." So there you go. Oli did it the right way. Any working class kid could have done the same. Oh hold on though. What's this in the paragraph before? "A friend of mine from school worked at Racing UK and gave them my CV". So not family ties but the old school tie. Not, as he claims, meritocratic egalitarianism. https://www.racingpost.com/news/features/the-big-read/oli-bell-everyone-thinks-i-got-a-job-because-of-my-dad-but-in-many-ways-i-got-a-dad-because-of-my-job-apBl90E3iC1H/ |
