So Gosden had just suffered a huge disappointment and near-miss, he gets door stepped before he's had a chance to have a good look back at it, but whatever he says in the heat of the moment must be absolutely bang on?

as gosden been shoemarks chief defender ,i,m afraid gosden just has to suck it up

I can imagine Gosden having a look at it tomorrow and saying great ride Shoemark, we wuz beat fair and square

He'll watch it in the cold light of morning and if he's being honest with himself, he'll say we were close enough 2f out if good enough.

On the RTV coverage, quite a telling camera angle 2f out, because Shoemark absolutely had Buick covered at that point and looked like he could take him at any time.

If it's a Zafonic, a Dancing Brave, or a Njinsky, they're winning by at least 5L from that position, but FOG couldn't quicken for toffee when it mattered.

Having watched it again i agree with George,he was right on top of him….

he's also off the bridle 2 out as well & loses ground initially on the downhill before closing on the uphill last 1f

I'd be interested to see if it was the dip and stride that just caught him out after he was looking to quicken, as like George says he looked like he was travelling all over Buick but then never picked up like you'd expect. No doubt if Shoemark threw the kitchen sink at him 2F out then and got pipped on the line people would say he went too early.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and that's pretty much all Gosden was saying as anyone could see, Shoemark would have been handier if he had his chance again.

Worth bearing in mind Gosden has never won the 2000 Guineas before and he has had some cracking milers.

Hopefully this one keeps getting better.

in craven which was a slower race it was last 3f out..cruised closer and quickened to win going away..nothing different today where it didnt quicken going into the dip..it was close enough if good enough..wants 10f.

Gosden never expected Shoemark to be a "Frankie" and he was correct

certainly 10f on g/f rico, that bit slower ground for the april meeting 1m looked fine

there's a full furlong of pushing 1f-2f out before the whip comes out

The way Buick was talking after they think quite a lot of the winner, so might turn out they are both very good.

If the first and second met again tomorrow the second would be fav imo. It looked and is best horse in race.

I backed FOG, and I can say the jockey should have done a couple of things differently.
But for me the main reason for defeat is that the horse did not quicken at the crucial point, and that cost him the race.

First impressions are very often correct. No reason for Gosden to alter what he said. A short, and precise summary. Rare for anyone in the game to be critical. That's how obvious it was.

Unfortunately, quite a lot of difference, the main one being this was a much better field. The ground was also quicker. He gave the winner three lengths start who was able to join battle with the other Godolphin runner. Field Of Dream was left stuck on the wing and never looked likely to get up. Whether he is a stayer time will tell, but he is a big horse who lengthens rather than produces instant acceleration. Jock should have been aware of that and not surrendered that early ground by taking a pull. As Gosden said he was just too far back.

I can see both sides of the argument,no cut and dry by any means.

Travelled like the best horse.Got caught flatfooted and then finished really well out of dip.

Buick built momentum and Shoe asked to quicken at wrong time so looked like he couldn't keep up.

As Gosden said he was just too far back.

Here is a close-up of the pair approaching the Dip. This must be the point where FOG went odds-on in the run? By no stretch of the imagination was he "too far back".

Field Of Gold was not too far back; Shoemark should have positioned himself closer to the winner coming to the dip. The winner kicked immediately coming out of the dip; Field Of Gold was still at the dip at this juncture. This "kicked" gained a length probably slightly more; Shoemark realised, tried to respond immediately but the horse was unbalanced as a result.

The rest is history.

thar ye go from the horses mouth, I WAS TO CONFIDENT SHOULD HAVE FIRED HIM IN TO THE DIP SHOULD HAVE WENT SOONER,obviously those who've never sat on a horse will tell him different

No thanks, ran in two group 1’s - been beaten. Ground seems to be a concern also, looking like Goldilocks! Shadow of light will strip fitter for the run and have Billy Boy, never out of the first two ;

I think he's matured (less keen) and improved from 2 to 3. The ground at Longchamp was also very soft, and 7f was too short for him. I think he's the one to beat given Ruling Court is off to Epsom, probably against The Lion In Winter.

Fill your boots by all means but not for me. Other reasons given on the anti post thread.
Next weekend the French guineas is run, be nice to see that also with a view to Ascot.
