Blimey this post gives just too many choices doesn't it?
But, I would certainly add one of my categories of pet hates, which is the jockey reports:
Horse ran too free
Horse was never travelling
Horse was slow from the stalls
All of which seem to suggest the jockey had nothing to do with it, and was just an onlooker while this happened!

e.g. SThe most expensive of the lot coming in at around £265,000 was Charlus, whose dam-sire was none other than Sir Alex Ferguson's brilliant horse Rock Of Gibraltar. RoG 'ownership' still contentious but hey ho.
This is a desperate attempt to shoe-horn Ferguson into a story. RoG is the damsire of 1,344 beasts that have run in the UK and Ireland. Give me peace.

Does anyone remember or have access to (and could post up) the brilliant column by Paul Haigh in the RP many years ago that was essentially a list of excuses from everyone involved with any horse that failed to win?
I have tried to find it in various archives over the years but to no avail.
