My wife's been to Palermo, Catania and Syracuse in the last few years, and of those she preferred Syracuse.

I've been several times, Palermo, Cefalu & Taormina. The island is small enough to drive to most places and is worth exploring. Taormina is expensive but Mazzeo and Naxos within walking distance for beaches (very up and down though). Syracuse is excellent and restaurants generally are a bit cheaper than Taormina. Next time I go I will probably stay there and do trips to other places. Mozzies can be a problem and I wonder if southern towns are affected by migrant influx.

Liked Syracuse and Agrigento.Taormina is a tourist trap. |

Yes, stayed in taormina , found nice old places to visit and went out from there. Drove up Mt etna etc.
All very rustic and unspoilt . As others have said Taormina gets v touristy as big cruise ships take their passengers there for some 5 star retail therapy , but there are some nice hotels there and nice old parts. It depends I suppose if you are after mainstream or prefer off the beaten track. I went with a girlfriend I wanted to impress so it was the glitzy area of taormina , though it was 20yrs ago, but the location was stunning. Restaurants in an ancient town overlooking sparkling sea. You can understand why tourists head there. Lemon groves and olive groves aplenty with lots of volcanic rock . From memory I caught the car ferry from mainland Italy, was quick and easy enough but other than that I can't remember much more . |

If the wife has her way ( which she normally does ) we'll be living in Sardinia from around early August.

No more Betfair platform for you from early August then, 'Hayden'. I hope you get to mix and communicate with compos mentis individuals there. Can you speak Italian?
|
|
By:
No , she's currently taking a course in Italian so looks like she's made her mind up.

I've never been to Italy let alone speak the lingo either. Last friday I dropped my sister off at Luton Airport to attend a wedding at Florence; I'd to pay a £5 drop-off charge for the 5-minute drop. I think this could be the closest I'll ever get to Italy.

Always been on the wife's bucket list , not looked into the VPR stuff as yet i've plenty of risk opportunities without using betfair but believe it's on the go list anyway , that said i'll worry about all that stuff if and when required.
In order to help you in working out whether you can legally access the Betfair site, the following is a list of legal countries from which Betfair do accept customers: Armenia Australia Austria Belarus Belgium Bosnia and Herzegovina Brazil Bulgaria Costa Rica Croatia Cyprus Czech Republic Denmark Egypt Estonia Finland Georgia Germany Gibraltar Greece Guatemala Hungary Iceland Ireland Italy Latvia Liechtenstein Lithuania Luxembourg Macau Malaysia Malta Mexico Netherlands New Zealand Panama Peru Philippines Poland Romania Russia Saudi Arabia Slovakia Slovenia South Korea Spain Sweden Switzerland Taiwan Thailand Ukraine United Arab Emirates United Kingdom Note: whilst this list is correct at time of writing, it is important to note that gambling law and legislation is always subject to change and thus some countries may be removed or added over time. |

Syracuse good and lots of history, but spend most of your time in beautiful Ortiga if you are there. Catania has some great architecture but some really dodgy areas being a docks city. Did not see much of Palermo as Ryanair bought our flight forward 8 hours !

If you end up in Palermo take a toured guide of the catacombes (poor spelling ) .Most fascinating place that I have ever seen ,but you need the guide to explain what went on back in the day .
