Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has been admitted to hospital and will miss the club's Premier League fixture with Manchester United on Sunday.
The 47-year-old went to hospital late on Friday, having "felt unwell for a number of days", the club said.
A statement said: "Medical staff kept Eddie in hospital overnight for further tests, which are ongoing.
"He is conscious and talking with his family, and is continuing to receive expert medical care."
The club added: "Everyone at Newcastle United extends their best wishes to Eddie for a speedy recovery, and further updates will follow in due course."
The statement did not give any further details of his illness or condition.
In Howe's absence, assistant managers Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones will lead Newcastle for the visit of Ruben Amorim's side to St James' Park.
Tindall stood in for Howe at a pre-match news conference on Friday.
Last month, Howe guided Newcastle to their first domestic trophy for 70 years with a deserved Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool at Wembley.
Newcastle are currently seventh in the Premier League table.
Amersham-born Howe has been in charge of the Magpies since November 2021, when he succeeded Steve Bruce as the club's head coach.
Newcastle have finished 11th, fourth and seventh in the past three seasons.
Howe has taken charge of 165 matches in all competitions for Newcastle, winning 84 drawing 36 and losing 45 of them.
Under Howe, the Magpies memorably beat Paris St-Germain in the Champions League group stage in the 2023-24 campaign but failed to make it to the knockout stage.
He previously had two spells in charge of Bournemouth either side of a brief stint at Burnley, and has been talked of as a future England manager.
However, he said he was not interviewed by the Football Association to replace Gareth Southgate, with Thomas Tuchel appointed Three Lions boss last October.

Had a week in hospital in Feb with Pneumonia. 4 days on oxygen and needed intra venus antibiotics to thwart it off absolutely knackered me up for best part of a month.

I know four people personally who’ve had pneumonia in the last six months. Can’t remember that many having it my lifetime before. It’s took/taking them all months to get over it too.

Back to full fitness thanx Kenbo. A bit scary as ambulance/oxygen blue flashing lights/jumping red lights and admitted to resus dept. Both my grandmothers and mother in law with same didnt make it out the front door.
Luckily i was reasonably fit for my age when admitted. Didnt stop me getting it but im sure helped me to a relatively speedy recovery.Being able to get out in the relatively warm spring air was an added bonus.
My neighbour was similar. Went to the walk in because he was feeling terrible, ten minutes later he was blue lighted to hospital too. Ten days in there and three months off work. He still sounds breathless and weak six months later.

They’re in the top four with a game in hand on all their rivals. They’ve won the league cup and have a great chance of CL football next season. Also they’ve spent wisely since being took over.

Over 65s only need to ask to get the jab(s) . Am very much a none vacc person but its a possible life ender so bit the bullet . No Covid mind .
Pneumonia covers a few things, could be viral, bacterial, fungal ect.
Not normal for a 47 year old to get it although it can affect anyone.
Old man's friend they say , never understood that one when I was young but needs no explanation now.
Still a few folks coughing and seen a plenty with the running nose thing, still a few chesty coughs going around.
They have been advertising for booster sheep of late.
Been a cool breeze on east coast and cool night time temps, be interesting if they say exactly what kind of pneumonia he has.
Can talk a couple of years to fully recover,it prob leaves a weakness imo.
