Conflated deserves better and Fil Dor, no idea what that thing was doing in the race and surprised it was allowed to run, never won over further than 2m 6f

It is also a failure of tactical nous. Most of the leaders in the National to half way were GB trained but they all faded. How many Irish winners all meeting led at half way?

I also agree with the op. I can only guess that it's the owners who want to be involved in a history making race. In the old days there might have been a flicker of hope that a 'Foinavon' type incident might happen and that an outsider might gallop into a place. Now the race changes mean that the classier horses are sure to dominate anyway and the nags are far less likely to feature..

The question must be asked is why are the Irish trainers, horses and owners miles ahead of UK horses?

Is it the breeding set up and Irish climate or just simply better trainers and training methods?

Prize money, training costs and better trainers. There are still an awful lot of bad horses and plain dangerous jockeys in Ireland but the best ones are world class. After the last month you do wonder if Patrick Mullins is one of the 5 best riders in the world despite being nominally an amateur.

Build five more AW tracks in Ireland, wait a decade, then see what state their jump racing is in after that.
