Constitution Hill to go chasing?

Just said something similar on another thread. It may well be worth a try, although the owner has always seemed not keen on it.

He could possibly win a Gold Cup.
Owner ought to give it a go but it's his hoss and his choice.

I’d put him away for a chasing campaign next season. He has a good jump in him and might respect fences more. he looks like he’s going to break his neck if he continues over hurdles.

I'd favour Punchestown just to give him a confidence boost, maybe with a change of jockey though (hardly likely to happen) and then campaign him next season as you say.

He fell again. This is 2x in succession; a concern for connections but I hope he's ok. He was ridden to get the trip with Lossiemouth in mind. Maybe a change in scenery would help. I think he'd benefit from going chasing next season with The Arkle in mind.

Think I'd be taking him to the optician before anything else...

well said lead on, everyone assumes horses have 20/20 vision, it's almost been 3 falls on the trot.

A champion jockey is about to enter an important race on a new horse. The horse's trainer meets him before the race and says, "All you have to remember with this horse is that every time you approach a jump, you have to shout, "ALLLLEEE OOOP!" really loudly in the horse's ear. Providing you do that, you'll be fine." The jockey thinks the trainer is mad but promises to shout the command. The race begins and they approach the first hurdle. The jockey ignores the trainer's ridiculous advice and the horse crashes straight through the center of the jump. They carry on and approach the second hurdle. The jockey, somewhat embarrassed, whispers "Aleeee ooop" in the horse's ear. The same thing happens - the horse crashes straight through the center of the jump. At the third hurdle, the jockey thinks, "It's no good, I'll have to do it," and yells, "ALLLEEE OOOP!" really loudly. Sure enough, the horse sails over the jump with no problems. This continues for the rest of the race, but due to the earlier problems, the horse only finishes third. The trainer is fuming and asks the jockey what went wrong. The jockey replies, "Nothing is wrong with me - it's this bloody horse. What is he - deaf or something?" The trainer replies, "Deaf?? DEAF?? You idiot, he's not deaf - he's BLIND!"

Do horses suffer from vision impairment? I thought he ballooned a hurdle.

Sadly, I suspect one more fall and that will be an early retirement for C Hill.

He has always been a bit chancy at one or two hurdles and if he goes chasing, while he might show the fences more respect, imagine if he fell and was killed in a high-profile race. The media and animal rights would go mad.

Will the owner and trainer want to take that chance? Doubt it.

Having looked at the side on it was the jockeys fault getting in that position and taking a pull made the horse jump too early.  If they continue I hope they change jockeys.

Watching Horse Racing legends 1979 on you tube .I was shocked to see the legendary Sea Pigeon fall twice in seperate races (obviously) .He went on to win the next 2 champion hurdles.

My feeling is that despite all the hype from Nico and Hendo about the horse being as good as ever, Nico doesn’t believe it. He had to give him a smack up the straight at Kempton. He felt the need to nurse him home in the International against much inferior opposition. He was looking behind coming down the hill ffs. There was never a need to do that when the horse was at his best. Then yesterday, fair enough he wasn’t in a great position coming round the final bend but Aintree has a long straight and there is plenty of time to get out of trouble. Nico pressed the panic button which suggests to me he felt he had nothing in hand and couldn’t afford to give Lossiemouth a head start. The best Constitution Hill would have had at least 10lb in hand. Hendo tells himself he hasn’t been beaten by another horse, just a couple of hurdles. Aye right.

Agreed, horse just looks like it can’t be bothered trying anymore.

You can get to be a top trainer by idiots believing you whether you are right or wrong.

The horse is 8, and his best form was at least 2 years ago, maybe 3. There is more downside than upside.

was going to post on a fresh thread about maybe caused by colouring on the hurdles! If henderson even slightly believed that the theory would be broadcast everywhere (was good enough for Willie Mullins but I forget which horse). I feel it is a being in 2 minds thing. found this quite good from Daryl Jacob "It's like a footballer, when you're young you go into that challenge but as you get older you think 'hang on a minute'. That's what Constitution Hill is doing. It's the same mistake he's making and it's like he's coming for the hurdle but his mind is second guessing himself when he takes off."

Watch the replay - NDB just before the hurdle which CH fell at, takes a very noticeable sudden pull (trying to get it to go short and fiddle the hurdle,,,,but in full flight just before the obstacle) - no wonder the horse got confused and fell - this fall was wholly down to the jockeys fault.....and he knows it !!!!(closed ranks @ horseracing.com) Going chasing would give the jockey more time to make snap decisions like he did

The demise of a Champion. Nobody loves that horse more than me but that should be it. Horse was never travelling and was beat 4 out. Sad

Change of jockey made no difference seemingly.
I'd change the stable at the same time.
Hoss needs a new challenge and a trainer with new ideas and ambition that match the Hoss not the trainer's ego.

Two consecutive falls in two consecutive big races. Yet, the trainer went for another big (end of season) one to atone for his ego (trainer's). But, the prep was over mini-fences. His run today was evident - he ballooned the 1st; the horse was confused (different hurdles too).

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I think Hendo is probably wishing he should have called time for the season post Cheltenham fall; Aintree over 20f was an unnecessary race.

Another James Bowen special on what is supposed to be the best horse in the race.  Never looked in sync with the horse.  He skied the first two and then he was booting him into a few.  Horses head carriage suggested that he wanted to go faster and was being forced to slow..  When Bowen finally let him go looks like the horse was just disgusted and couldn't be bothered...

First time I've ever seen a horse described as "disgusted", but I like the image

double figures....he didn't look like he appreciated that distance over hurdles when he was in his pomp, on the flat he would need an iron lung turning for home especially against Kyprios who would laugh at him
