Townend and mullins thought theyd play it safe, as their horse was so much better and didnt want to risk interference. But - this gave up many lengths with Cheltenhams tight/ish bends....MORE than GDC was beaten by !!!

Winner hacked up. Galopin never looked the same horse from the off. Maybe the good ground did it or maybe he just wasn't up for it.

Ahoy Senior's fall didn't help.

was never one of the greats - a horse prepared purely to peak to win the gold cup and no other competitive races - not even as good as best mate and certainly not in the came class as desert orchid and kauto star

Being hampered didn't help

It's all hindsight and we'll never know but surely had every chance , i bet Richard Pitman wished he'd have taken a more scenic route on Pendil rather than track a 66/1 shot in High Ken.

I'd praise the horse for being bang there at the last when clearly not himself. The winner was a fantastic performance though.

The winner made a couple of mistakes, but was much the best. I was worried about Donoghue being replaced, but Walsh's confidence has grown and he gave him a very good ride. Thank goodness they supplemented and they found my bet. Great for Cromwell who now adds this to a Champion Hurdle. JP/Mullins don't need to think about Fact To File and the Gold Cup.

Best horse on the day won.  I think the horse (GDC) was not at its best today, and Paul tried to wake it up going wide. It may also-be his Winner is very good and we just a passing of the baton.

i'm taking the ' never going well' , ' never that happy ' stuff with a pinch of salt . up in trip 7 y o proper stayer wins race . without him being supplemented you would be listening to all the praise  being heaped on a wide margin 3 time gold cup winner . ...i'm actually pleased for best mate who , apparently , only beat rubbish . not that easy to win 3 is it ?
