Shows the ego of the man, utterly bizarre decision, when you have as much money as Ricci has....also shows a complete lack of confidence in his horse, as im certain Mullins was desperate to run in the CH irrespective of what he has said publicly.

hopefully we have CH and Lossie running against each other in ireland...
Report CagliariG March 11, 2025 4:39 PM GMT
Really, seems like only after time morons doing that tbh but that is your level!! HTH

As the winning trainer said about his owner - who dares wins Rodney.
Report wondersobright March 11, 2025 5:01 PM GMT
likely left a champion hurdle behind but hey least they won a mares hurdle

I top thing about the result is knowing how much RR is pissed off. Willy gave the game away when he was interviewed about SM and said he blew L away in work or something similar so prob thought 4th at best which is why they went for the mares., while that was the reason the winner went for the Ch after L switched!
Report CagliariG March 11, 2025 5:54 PM GMT
Strange that the experts on here think the owner and trainer got it so wrong given they won the mares and would have won the CH bar the fall, when will the Forum start training these horses and making the entries etc?

And pay the bills?
Report duffy March 11, 2025 5:57 PM GMT
Think CH might have won without the fall too, especially considering as the expected strong pace that was supposed to have stretched the field did not materialize....Supreme was run quicker at all points to this race.
Report CagliariG March 11, 2025 6:26 PM GMT
Howard called me ASDC when I questioned his view that ORMOLULU would be a 90 rated horse, beaten again a few minutes ago off 82 with the jockey claiming 5lb, only had £86 on the winner tbf, Howard must have lumped on the second or not?

CagliariG , Irrelevant that State Man nearly won, this thread is clearly about Ricci and whether he made the right decision.
Report CagliariG March 11, 2025 6:33 PM GMT
So you are saying Lossie would have won the CH Hushwing? More irrelevant than any view given before the race, are you saying they were wrong and would have won the CH?
Report elisjohn March 11, 2025 6:37 PM GMT
lossie would habe been 3rd imho if ch and state man hadnt fall,  wouldnt mind seeing them 3 at aintree over 2.5 miles

and thats why she should have been in. Riccis been in the game long enough to know that. ONly horse ever to get within 3 lengths of Con. Hill .A truly bizzare decision. Even more so if they had declared , as Golden Ace would have gone Mares as they where tracking on BHA website which way Lossie went.
Report CagliariG March 11, 2025 6:43 PM GMT
Simple fact is that Mullins got it right bar the fall, whether it would have been had CH not fallen is moot, he would have won both.
Report Hushwing. March 11, 2025 6:53 PM GMT
ah you need the 'did Mullins get it right thread' Crazy

decision to go the mares would definitely have been Willie's. not aftertiming to say Nothing ventured nothing gained
Report impossible123 March 11, 2025 6:59 PM GMT
I'm sure Ricci will insist Lossie turns up at Punchestown. I hope so too CH and SM. I think if CH is sound his owner ought to dictate to Hendo.

If you watched his interview earlier after the win it was quite obvious it wasn't his decision

it definitely wasnt Willie's decision..
it was the man who loves the limelight who made the decision.
Report impossible123 March 11, 2025 7:47 PM GMT
It was the correct decision. But, it will hurt them like hell given the fate of CH and SM. A different stable Lossie would have run in the Champion Hurdle eg Golden Ace.
Report sageform March 11, 2025 7:51 PM GMT
And how do you know that Lossie would not have been brought down in one of the falls? Golden Ace was lucky to avoid both of them but showed real class to win easily.
Report Hayden March 11, 2025 8:10 PM GMT
You'll never know how it would have panned out if Lossie had run , horses would have been in slightly different track positions in all probability and it's impossible to compare as it's not like for like , could easily have meant both stood up especially State Man on the assumption he'd have had something to race against at the business end.

Pure conjecture i'm afraid    Happy
Report impossible123 March 11, 2025 8:19 PM GMT
I think her connections would have taken the chance regardless. Her running style over 2m would have precluded her from being up with the pace; she'd be behind both CH and SM, I reckoned.

Imagine had she not taken a bad fall at Leopardstown? Anyway, it just was not to be.
Report Angela Rebecchi March 11, 2025 8:20 PM GMT
Clearly Rich wanted them to run in the Mares. I personally would have gone for the Champion Hurdle as would rather take a shot at the big one
Report impossible123 March 11, 2025 8:24 PM GMT
That was the major difference in mind-set between connections of Lossiemouth and Golden Ace. Fortune favours the brave as the saying goes.
Report MJK March 11, 2025 8:30 PM GMT
Can just imagine if either of the falls had resulted in a fatality. The anti racing brigade would've had a field day with such high profile horses. Great to see all involved walk away.
Report eric_morris March 11, 2025 9:58 PM GMT
The jockey decided the Mares not the owner. The trainer supported the jockey in his desires and not the owners desires.
