I never understand why the need to have a go at a meeting you don't like. Surely you just ignore it and leave it to the people who like it and enjoy a bet on it.

A 0-80, a 0.85 and a novice with runners from powerhouse stables. Seems a reasonable card to me.
Then again I am a flatite not a jumpite. |

So this is worse that the daily thrill of whether or not to take on the odds on favourite in the endless gruel diet of 3 runner novice chases?

Poor field sizes at Newcastle on the AW today, but no such problems for Southwell where there are three divisions of the 0-55 7f handicap. Can't say I can remember seeing three divisions of a race before.

GEORGE.B - I've just done a quick search of results on horseracebase.com and surprisingly found those illustrated below.
Only double-checked the most recent one to make sure 'Div 3' was in the race title and it was so assume other races listed meet the same criteria. ![]() |

PS
Just checked each of the other seven races listed and indeed, they have 'Div 3' is in the race title. |

Thank you top2rated. The jumps ones would have passed me by anyway, but prior to today just the one three division split on the Flat in the last 6/7 years.

I always preferred the jumps but the small fields are pushing me more towards the flat.

All in all very few better experiences for those who make the effort to go racing than a day/night at Southwell plenty of regulars go who prefer it to the likes of goodwood and Cheltenham,as the dealer days just ignore it if you don’t like it.

I used to enjoy the jumps and particularly Irish jumping. Its mid card at Navan and a glance at the results reminds me of why I never bother nowadays.

jimnast...well done for defending the meetings at Southwell. I am a member there and rarely miss a flat or NH meeting.
The comment from the OP is rather daft. After all, a 2/1 winner in a terrible grade 6 is just the same as a grade 1 handicap with 18 runners etc. Difference is, the grade 6 will often be an easier race to sort out. Sad to say, but I suspect those who are critical of low grade racing are not willing to do enough work to sort out the betting opportunities that often lie at that level. As for Southwell itself, well the crowds might be small and the racing low grade, but it is one of the nicest tracks to go to - and I have been to the lot now. That said about low crowds, tomorrow (Monday) the jumps card will draw a decent crowd because the weather is forecast to be fine and jumping does seem more popular in Nottinghamshire that the flat - something Nottingham racecourse should reconsider, as Windsor has successfully re-introduced NH after a long absence. To end, though, why do not those who think the card at Southwell on Friday was so poor, just stop moaning and simply visit the track itself ASAP? I think they would be rather surprised. |

Completely agree those who haven’t been should do so soon Windsor I’ve spent many winters days there always enjoy those also 2 very different but very good Indians in the town plus a pub that sells Hereford pale ale
From a punting point of view I’m very happy to have a bet there. |
