When you spot one IR going well and you look to check the jockey and you see it's Hughes, just put a line through it...unless you think he can win it on the bridle.

you could see the panic setting in about 100 yds from hurdle when he knew he needed a good jump at last and basically shut his eyes ,threw thew horse at the hurdle and hoped for the best

I wonder what percentage of regulars on here ever lay horses? Always makes me laugh when pundits especially say "I've taken the favourite on" when they have actually backed the second favourite.

I agree with the general feeling above regarding Hughes.
As regarding laying horses I expect plenty do, but the more old fashioned like myself, don't. I would be even more interested as to how many bet pre race as very few give any opinions on here.

I'm fairly ancient but I hardly ever back, and I was never a bookie. I think tbf Hughes was comfortably the best northern-based jockey for a few seasons but definitely not what he was. Is riding a lot of complete no-hopers recently I have noted.

imo Hughes as always been weakest as pish in a finish/run in, but he used to be able on the northern gaff tracks get could track position and gets horses to ping hurdles/fences in comparison to his opposition, and you could always pick his mounts out in a race because of that, now you couldn't pick him out in a race for free money and he was always a no show the odd time he went down south
