My latest 'Zoom-In' where pro-punter Mark Holder talks about ditching in-depth from study, getting insulted by Matt Chapman, no longer tipping to clients and concentrating on in-running betting from home.

Ask him if he backed Ikdam in the '89 Triumph Hurdle. His dad trained it, I was all over it like a rash!!

Won @66-1, after-timing is allowed after 36 years has passed.

Big fan of his previous interviews and some gems of thinking but here he talks about in-running ( from 26 mis in )  and would be amazed if most players of any ability on here don't think this is absolute kindergarten stuff he comes out with here.

give us a clue as to what he says at minute 26 will you ?

well it's 26 mins 'til the end. But it's really just about horses using too much petrol early mid race moves etc. At one point he does admit he hasn't paid enough attention to horses getting a good trip in a race or a bad one. That's really because his angle has not involved IR for 30 years.  Now he comes on and tells people what it's all about !!

stopped listening to him when he said hcp marks are practically irrelevant

tho spose it goes to show there's plenty of ways to skin a cat

don't think he fully explained what he means. Of course other things can trump whatever weight a horse is carrying or even in some cases ability. I take it that's what he really meant but as I say he didn't go into depth about it. Thought the whole interview was poor but some may disagree. Watch it if you can !

what percentage of race horses in training are listed class or better? 2%?

for the rest their whole career revolves around their handicap mark.

you will be glued to your seat when Simon interviews the Tynesider who  has made well into seven figures betting in-running at exchange shops  track boxes and now drones !!

It was the official ratings not the handicap mark that Matt Chapman was referring to.

Mark said 150 won't  always beat the 143 horse in a non-handicap.  This is true. Strange point to make though from a man that made his money from handicap hurdles ?

Must be the most boring person Simon has ever interviewed, says absolutely nothing of interest whatsoever. Annoyed that I wasted time watching it.

If after watching interviews with pro's you have picked up one profoundly interesting point it has been well worthwhile watching. For me this has certainly been the case with Mark in most previous interviews. But yes not here. It's a good example of someone thinking they are excellent and being excellent in one field and then possibly thinking they are at somewhere like the same level elsewhere.  Pre-race and IR different ball games even though it's still horse racing. And then you have to get through 26 minutes first !!

If he concentrates on in-running why the fanfare about ante-post tips for the Festival?

RP paying him to write a column I would guess.

Just to be clear, i wasn't referring to anything he said in this vid (which i havent watched)...he said that in an article in the RP in 2022

"How often do we hear that a particular horse is close to its "previous winning mark" or "well in today"? It comes at us from all angles. Trainers, punters, jockeys, TV presenters and pundits talk about them as if they mean something. Which, of course, they don't".

Don't agree with him there UNLESS the horse is overbet because of it. But he hasn't said that ( rest of piece behind paywall ).  Many gambles are landed because a horse is at a mark it has previously won on. If you are on at the bigger prices you often have the value.  You likely need the info though.

Understand totally when he says he doesnt want to be stuck in an office studying four hard 0-100 handicap hurdles for six hours a day in his late 50s.

He is doing the right thing in his late 50s

Certainly don't disagree FOR HIM Celtic.  But when people stop doing what they were good at I would think their appeal as somebody to listen to diminishes quite a bit.
