racing has been like this as long back as i can remember...
and it will be like this long after i'm gone...
why ?
coz the authorities allow it.

It's one thing landing a gamble, but it's a real pi55 take when the trainer says things like that. Stable got lots of previous, normally laying them though...

i suspect there was a bit more than 20 quid e.w. invested here ...obviously when trainers start getting paid for interviews they will tell us so much more !!!!!

Too many trainers, recently, have got away with saying they have no explanation for improvement in form. But with this one the betting shows people were in the know. Will be interesting to see what BHA actually do, but I won't hold my breath.

plenty on here seem to think its fair game ,basically on the same principl lots of people like/agree with rich people/tax avoiders etc because one day they think /hope they,ll be rich, avoiding tax etc in racing one day they hope it will be them in the no regards an 80,s shot, or a shorties that wont be winning today

Nicely tucked away at the end of another card, in a dire h'cap on a day when the CH fav was centre stage.
The 3 mules nearest in the betting never in the race. One jumped 3 and was pulled up.

Freedie. That's fine but without punters like me actually betting on racing the whole game is dead. Then the owners won't buy horses at all and all trainers will be on the dole.

easiest to do away is do away with low grade handicaps ........and bring in minimum rating to run in a handicap......say 60 on the flat and 95 over jumps...........sick and tired of the needs this for a mark mentality of British racing,,,,,

A significant gamble was landed in the final race at Uttoxeter when the Evan Williams-trained Owl Of Athens scored commandingly as the 85-40 favourite having been available at 80-1 in the morning.
The six-year-old, who was a general 66-1 shot when betting opened on the race on Friday night, had been beaten 277 lengths in seven previous starts, but got off the mark in the 2m4f handicap hurdle when coming home eight lengths clear of Ghasham under Conor Ring.

What astounds me is how they did so well managing to keep this gamble under the radar. It's a large stable with many staff and owners - clearly many people even associated with the stable were in the dark. It's not unusual for this stable to have a gamble, but normally every bookie in south wales has a punter who has been given the nod three or four days before and they end up opening up at a price relevent to their chance.

I know somebody that has a share in a runner in that race
If this sort of thing goes unchecked (I’m talking about a huge pi$$ take not a little bit of a stroke) then there is no integrity in racing whatsoever and that equals far fewer punters
Makes me laugh the morons that admire this sort of thing, of course they aren’t paying out initial purchase costs and then monthly training fees, vet fees, jockey fees, entry fees etc. They’d soon be singing a different tune if they were……..

The way to deal with scandals small or large is a brazen/indignant response, hence the owner having £20 EW and the game being knackered if that's a gamble. Politicians have built entire careers using this tactic.

They look upon the paying customers as fodder, always have since day one, nothing will change tbh….imo…
Fodder !
The gravy train also treat the fodder with contempt, they cringe when the fodder complain about certain rides and betting….they want the new fodder to believe it’s all white and rosy…..

This has gone on for as long as there has been racing.....Some right moaners on here.....We would have to ban every trainer bar the one's whose patronage means they dont need to gamble to make up for the shocking prize money here.
It wont register with the wider public at large either....Racing as a betting medium is dying not because of this, but because youngsters prefer to bet on fitba....

And why do you suppose this is? Could it possibly be that the youngsters don't trust what they see with Racing?

as stated before its the same mentality as those without a pot to pish in defending the rich over tax avoidance.evasion ,because one they think they,ll be the rich tax avoiders,in racing one day they think they,ll be in the no about a 66,s plot horse

I don't think most neutrals avoid betting horses because it is corrupt - most neutrals just see a lot of pretty horses running fast and trying to win, with lovely jockeys trying hard also.
They are the once a year punters on a works do picking 20-1 shots and screaming it home at the races.
It's those of us who bet on it regularly that see all the filth and corruption.

Plenty of these 80s into single digits go astray, as long as i have been racing - coups like these have been going on, Ryan Price was a master though his big gambles bit before my time.

Be interesting to see how Wild Nephin gets on, first race at Chepstow tomorrow. This ran in the same race was second favourite and unfortunately pulled up after 3 hurdles. Twisted shoe, but money has come for it !

don't suppose many were watching ATR at uttox ,but in YIFTERS piece in sportinlife today,he says ANDREW THORNTON interviewed Williams before racing about the gamble and Williams didn't want to talk about it but eventually said he wouldn't trust the eventual winner and fancied his other runner in the race, AND REMEMBER IN FUTURE SAVILLE THINKS WILLIAMS SHOULD GET PAID FOR THAT LITTLE NUGGET

brandyontherocks 27 Jan 25 16:16 How many people moaning would think differently if they had been given the nod when the horse was 66/1 ??
You call it moaning and perhaps some of the moaners simply want to see Racing survive whereas others completely ignore the fact that the younger generations want nothing to do with it because of what is going on.

Racing has survived plenty of orchestrated coups Sparrow, this was hardly a Curleyesque type plot, more a large handful of owners, friends and associates having a punt at big prices then Joe punter joining in. Doesn't take a fortune for liabilities to mount before the books react and more lose than win but of course nobody ever cares about that, do they?
You seem to be suggesting the game is not as straight as in your time, before patrol cameras and live TV pictures, delusion imvho.

I am not suggesting that at all but we live in different times now whereby we have far greater access to tv pictures etc. and what was tolerable at one time is no longer. The game in my early days was riddled with doping and to compare with that is of course ridiculous. Deal with the present is what is required and forget about the so called wonderful past which I would never want to return to.

why would the owners back a horse when the trainer is on live tv telling the world he wouldn't trust it/back it and fancied his other horse in the race ? if the owners always back it why hasn't it plunged from 66,S to single digits before or at least showed signs of been well punted,if it only takes a few bets ?

So he fancied a 50/1 shot you say 1st TP, with only one owner btw. Are you suggesting syndicate owned horses only get punted if the trainer gives the nod? The horse I explained about yesterday would be a typical example, the trainer did not fancy him, nobody knew if he could handle heavy and was against 18 other runners with form in the book, I even had to borrow a bigger girth strap as the trainer had not even checked the tack.
Have you seen a single bookmaker complaining? Probably because they know it was no plot and the vast majority of the time such punts end up in their satchels!!

no but if every horse that had 20 ew punted on it by the conections went to single digits there be a dozen everyday, there isn't .as pointed out your lucky if there's 2 or 3 a season, which means it was far more than a few 20 ew bets

if Williams fancied his other horse and he or the connections had 20 ew on it,why not ,in Williams world why didn't that go from 50,s to single figures ?

Gambling on horses has to be seen as fair or its just flappin greyhounds!

Never near to challenge Never better than midfield In rear throughout Raced in last, weakened before 2 out Always behind, tailed off Always behind
Hacks up, wins 8 length clearing off into the distance ... 80's to 2's.
surely one of the most blatant ever ?
same jockey every time, nobody else getting on it

potters was well backed and pulled up early apparently injured as horse punted from 80,s to 2,s,walks home and isa now fit 3 days later and punted again, nothing to see here just UK racing soiling itself in public, you think they might carry on the charadecand at least wait a week or so

The trainer pre race said the horse had twisted off a shoe on Saturday, haven't looked at the stewards report. In fairness to him he also said it wasn't ideal to race again so soon but the horse seemed fine and it was a poor race.
