Layed this @ 1.82 and Betfair have incorrectly settled as a loser. Anybody else?

Thanks. I must have misunderstood the market and should have placed a back bet instead of lay bet. What a PIA.

I'm amazed it was odds on to win by over 8l. I think the prices threw me, need to pay more attention...

I have never bet in these distance markets ( maybe just as well )  I saw NO and automatically assumed it was a Lay bet.

Its annoying that I can't go back and check the market to see exactly how it tripped me up.

a lay is a bet against, so a lay of "no" is a bet against "no"

its simple

Ah, just seen the same market for Potters Charm. There are Yes and a No lines, both of which you can choose to bet or lay. Far too confusing for my pea sized brain...

Agree, they really only need a simple back/lay market not 2 choices.

Maybe take to the matter to IBAS. Betfair is known for job-release individuals setting up malformed betting markets.

Thanks for the help etc. Just got accept it, my mistake. It never fails to amaze me how many different ways I fashion a losing bet from a sure-fire certainty; another one for my collection. Laugh

I've done the same at least twice. Once when I just walked into the house with barely two minutes to the race.

When betting on a race with a long odds on favourite used to offer win over 3 lengths, win under 3 lengths and win exactly 3 lengths on the flat and the same over the jumps but 6 lengths. The betting was only on the distance so the hot favourite could get beat and the punter could still win. In the huge majority of cases the favourite did win but the "under" pick prevailed in most cases because it seemed that the jockey and connections wanted to win but to not go "balls out."

Distances not as easy to the eye these days Felt , they're given based on time lapse between horses but also lengths per second , going dependent , type of surface and also whether a flat or jumps race , that's why you see some that look 3 lengths are officially sometimes over a length different.

Probably right but you could only pay out on the announced distance.

Ridiculous way of measuring the winning distance. Typical BHA tripe.

You freeze the frame when the winner's rear has passed the line and measure, that's the distance, none of this time b0ll0x.

It was 4 lengths.

How does the Judge calculate the distances?
29 Apr 14

Distances are calculated on the elapsed time between each horse and then a scale known as the Lengths per Second Scale (Lps) is used dependent upon whether it is Flat or Jumps racing, the type of surface in use at the all-weather fixtures and the official going description issued on the day. The Scales used vary from four to five Lps for Jumps racing and from five to six Lps on the Flat. When the going description distinguishes between different parts of the course, the scale relating to the going in the straight is applied.  The table for the Lengths per Second Scale (Lps) can be viewed here.

at Redcar the last 100 yrs has all different coloured fence posts,I've always assumed for 50 yrs  each post = a LENGTH in winning distance, would that be right before it was done on timing ?

so if a horse is pulling up in 2nd.  comes to a standstill 10 lengths behind the winner as it crosses the line.

walks the rest of the course in a minute.  is the winning distance 80 lengths ??
