Interesting to see these historical posts but does it illustrate how many of us have lost interest in current racing?

Racing just seemed better back then....Maybe because you are younger, but commentary, analysis just seemed better, probably wasn't, but racing seemed more exciting back then..
YouTube is a great memory finder.. |

Superpower is the nag I remember. Lester Piggot put Tony up during his short lived training career.
Ivesy has been in a bad way health wise in Thailand but his Go Fund Me is doing quite well. https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-tony-ives |

"and don`t forget Nagwa and Spindrifter."
Nagwa was trained by Barry Hills .... No one mentioned Timeless Times who won 16 races the same as Provideo .... also i think he trained Abdu who won around 8 or 9 races for O'Gorman |
|
By:
Wasn't Superlative just about O'Gormans best ever horse , maybe not for numerical wins but seem to remember it running in all the top race with credit.

I think us old-timers are more critical these days with 'live' pictures at hand, and more likely to pass judgement on a horse or jockey given our accumulated experiences and longevity in the game. And, I think we're more prepared to disagree with the bookie stooges (with self-interest at heart) on their sponsored papers and racing channels.
'townley', you're right. Dean Mckeown was appalling on Cool Enough at Carlisle. |

Jack Berry mentioned there then for the first time in many many years the words ‘red shirts’ came into my head ha ha

Horage won a stack of 2yo races for Matt McCormack
|
|
By:
When this thread started, I thought immediately of prolific 2 year olds, not trained by the great Bill. My first three were Horage, Sky Gipsy and of course, Cawstons Pride. I looked up Horage in the 1982 Timeform and here is what it said....
"Horage's record now stood at nine wins from nine starts, a truly remarkable achievement. There have been several other amazingly tough 2yo's since the war - Nagwa and Spindrifter both won 13 races with Spindrifter winning 10 races in a row, Kursaal won the last nine of her ten races in 1967 and Abdu won nine times in 1978, but none of these won a pattern race. The only animals we can think of whose achievements compare with Horage's are Sky Gipsy and the French filly Texana. Sky Gipsy's ten wins in 1965 included the Windsor Castle, and the July and Richmond Stakes. The above, of course was written before Cawstons Pride!!! Hope this is of interest MFW? |

Remember Horage so many memories in racing we were a lucky generation see such great horses over the years and this is just the flat.
