Friday's meetings at Huntingdon and Doncaster have already been lost to the weather but Lingfield is hoping to survive a second inspection this morning after failing an initial check at 7.30am.
Clerk Stephanie Wethered will be hoping the track improves over the course of the morning following lower temperatures than forecast on Thursday night, and conditions are expected to rise to 0C by 11am. "We've called a further inspection at 9am today and we're cautiously optimistic," Wethered said. "We did see lows of -7.2C, which was even lower than the -5C we were forecast. "We should be above freezing at around 11am, so we remain hopeful that we see further improvements." |

Lingfield gone.

Another "clerk" "cautiously optimistuc". 10 minutes later meeting off. Do they lie on purpose or are they just braindead?
By:
what's the point of a 730am inspection for frost ? stay in bed Stephanie, it's frozen luv.
come back at 11am when it "should be above freezing" and have a look then. |
By:
Hardly, when 1st race is 11.45 !
By:
Do they lie on purpose or are they just braindead? Both!
By:
There needs to be "1 inspection" on or off. Very simple.
By:
Hardly, when 1st race is 11.45 !
forget the first 2 races then. buys you another hour, still a 6 race card. |
By:
Many people can be blamed but the Clerks who were given the right forecast mostly made the right call If the weather experts can't get any where near the right temperature three hours ahead, what are they supposed to do? Instead of +2 degrees at 11 it was still -2.
By:
why don't they have floodlights at Lingfield? Contours of the track?
By:
Locals objected
By:
Musselburgh would have been a cracking floodlight cours.

Lingfield inspecting Sunday 7.30 am

I can't see much racing next week too. Tracks won't thaw that fast.
By:
They need to stop these early morning meetings during the winter months. Absolutely ridiculous messing around every morning with updates and inspections.
By:
Exeter looking ok for tomorrow.
By:
Sunset 4.17pm so with 8 or 9 race meetings early starts are inevitable.
By:
The AW tag is getting increasingly meaningless. The only advantage over turf seems to be that you can race on it more often when the weather is OK.

Sunset 4.17pm so with 8 or 9 race meetings early starts are inevitable. No reason whatsoever not to have meetings on certain days starting around 1300 to 1600 with 7 races. |
By:
As Sageform mentions, it’s time to change the tag as it just accentuates the embarrassment when a meeting is called off.
How about something along the lines of “As long as the temperature doesn’t drop below zero Racing”? |

lingfield isnt all weather, called off twice in one week. simples!

By:
George the 10.45 Saturday start will more than likely become 10.15 as they will divide at least one race, They have to finish by 14.00 to protect premier racing nonsense
By:
Agree, Mr C, it is nonsense, and as someone suggested, all they have to do for the big races is leave a 15 minute blank gap either side, which is pretty much what they do for the Grand National.
By:
It would actually enhance the whole race day experience at a so-called lesser meeting. The amount of times you have to squeeze into an on course betting shop to catch a glimpse of a big away race with no sound it's hard to believe it hasn't been done yonks ago. They do it in South Africa and it becomes part of the lesser meeting's race card.
