There's no doubt he deliberately announced his impending retirement well in advance knowing the gullible racecourse managers would fall over themselves to get him to their tracks. Guaranteed to get more gigs this year than he has in the last few combined.

There's a queue at Beachy Head of in running punters without pictures who depended on Thommo's commentary!

... Not sure saying you " will go off to check " who is in the lead is quite good enough.

the grovelling apology is almost as embarrassing , 5 good commmentaries before the howler he claims, the hubris of these people never surprises.

one thing i would say swifty...

at least he had the guts to actually offer up an apology...

many times in the past it has annoyed me when a commentator fks up...

and you never hear a d1ck1e bird from them about it whatsoever...

i didn't like the 9 hour round trip nonsense tbh...

that's part of his job...

and if folk abused him on 'social media' then that's poor imv...

but like i say at least he apologised which is more than some have over the years.

i've always said if you make a c0ck up...

you offer an apology and everyone can move on...

none of us are perfect and we all screw up from time to time (well i do at least).

to be fair as comparative jobs go that was the equivalent of a pilot flying in to a clff face or a open heart surgeon stitching you up with all his tools still inside you, where a mealy mouthed apology mentioning his previous safe flight or heart operation on Twitter wouldn't quite cut it
