Horses win doing same around there - not all that much is round bend on that course.

Better ground is usually the excuse, whether you believe that...

A few tracks it pays to go wide when the ground is soft.
Wetherby is a track where most thick a@se jocks stick to the rail when they are at a huge advantage running wide.
Knowing the few jockeys with a brain that know it pays to race wide is helpful.

Plumpton similar, although better across the track than it used to be.  Remember chaps, OP has backed a loser so have some sympathyCool

The horse has won easily on heavier ground before. 3 1/2 stretched It's stamina last time. Was never going to get home, it travelled an extra 1/2F.
Yes, I backed it (Charlie Deutsch was down to ride when I did at 10am) Not heard of Shane Quinlan(3)..

Looked well beaten long way out, so don't think it made much difference, in this specific case - though sometimes I agree being very wide can seem annoying on a weakener.

In the end it did look like it wouldn't have gone close. But it would have had to have quite a bit in hand to win under that ride.
Always frustrated me runners I back are kept out wide (Especially in a stayers race)
Stopped backing Barry Geraghty back in the day as he went wide so often..

Why would you want your horse ridden in the chewed up inside lane on winter ground?
