Going through old papers this morning came across a 1987 edition of 'Winning Ways to Bet' by Methodmaker published by Raceform. Reading through it came across a very comprehensive article highlighting 'The VDW Approach to Betting'.
Does any Betfairian use this method in their own betting today? Seems a logical way of going about things.
Best wishes to all for the coming days.

Malay,  sorry to say I am not technical proficient enough to do that. Apologies.

what's the jist of it ?

I can't believe it was ever profitable to begin with. The gist is that "horses that have won under the current conditions are good horses to back, CD winners are better than non-CD winners". How can there be value in something so obvious?

The football equivalent genius strategy would be "only back teams with at least 7 wins out of 10 games, they are better than other teams"

thanks gaze

It's not a system, but a 'method' to allow you to make your own selections - the full version is actually fairly complicated.

Personally wouldn't bother as lot of it is general analysis that most would be doing anyway.

It's a different way of looking at form I think.
A numerical evaluation of the odds being one aspect.

Being of an age, 58 i used to get racing chronicle and then raceform update, weekly in late 1980s, both excellent publications. VDW was all the rage then and made tony peach famous in his own right.

The method is easy in its initial approach, just awarding points for wins, d wins and cd wins. However there is still a big mystery from thw winning examples given.

I think the best words of advice were to watch a horse that seemed to improve when upped in grade for previous race which was now dropped back in grade in its own winning class

Lotsof paphlets were issued. I still have them too. Basically a series of short articles. Little owl, bregawn. All those memorable dickinson horses
