I backed Il Est Francais in early October at the magnifique price of 9/2.
I’m now tempted to go in again, so long as he is declared.
It’s a dissapointing renewal.

I have absolutely zero respect for anybody that thinks this Horse can Win....Got nay fakin chance.

I wouldn't write the Frenchie off completely but those last two runs wernt great to say the least , I can only go by price to conceived  chance ie  what I see as value and there's a horse there who loves good ground (no significant rain for the next  14 days) according to weather sites ) has won grade 1 handicap chases ,won this race ,3rd in a French champ hurdle btn 1.5 lengths ,3rd in punches town gold cup behind fastorslow and  btn just over a length by galopin des champs  who was second . not saying he will win but put it this way I've seen worse 16/1 shots  each way.

Surely he must be a bleeder on the days he stops? Has that been reported anywhere? On the days he doesn't stop he is brilliant. Don't think it is a question of how good he is, just will he bleed or whatever else is the matter with him. Tom George latest report said he was going well and could very well still line up.

Will say it just wan more time lads Horse is shot to smithereens and not a hope in hell of getting back to what we saw at Kempton last Year.Trainer kidding himself if he thinks otherwise.

Sorry but Il est Francais' achilles heel is he is a non-stayer and (a One Man) 3 miles round e.g. Kempton would be his limit. Last race 3m4f and the Juntos Ganamos tactics were to pressurise IdF all the way. Theye were tramping on at 2m4f pace in a 3m4f race. Not sustainable over the rather large Auteuil obstacles. IdF had been passed at the final Tourn d'Auteuil and Reveley pulled him up before the rail fence and one before le gros open ditch. Not risking a horse who was emptying beneath him and post race confirmed as having bled.

3m at Kempton is within the compass as evidenced by last years novice win 4.5 seconds quicker than Hewick's win in the KGVI. They did not hang about in that as everything ended up on the deck or in a heap allowing Hewick to pick the gaspers on the run-in @ 550/1 in running.

IdF has only been beaten twice over obstacles. Behind Theleme and Hermes Baie in March 23 after a 3 month layoff so no shame there. Then November's PU. Juntos Ganamos is the best 3m4f+ horse in France at the moment. Jumps like a stag but when he makes an error it is a beauty. I think he said where did that fecker disappear to when he jumped the rail ditch and fence like a cat and walked through the next.

OP post too opinionated with nowt to back it up except the November PU. Was always going to be a runner so tyvm I decided to have some shillings on at 10/1. Now 5/1 and good ground ensures at least 2 of the other single figures won't run. Hewick also reported as running at Leopardstown. Price can only get shorter.

SO - mugs are on at 10/1+ on a confirmed running likes the going 5/1 shot. A no brainer.

He's Kempton bound at the moment. His latest work was good, and the betting (5/1) reflected that. On the contrary Corbetts Cross (CC) is friendless (12 here); Spillanes Tower - same ownership as CC - could be supplemented only if the going has soft in the description.

Given the trainers update and intentions, 12/1 looks a very good position to be in. As said, if he lines up the trainer is no mug and horse must be ok, no bet here yet but will you show your bare bum in Tesco if unplaced acey?

"The Martaline gelding finds life almost too easy and occasionally loses concentration" and while not 100% convinced the bare 3m will be his forte. I have layed off IdF (incl profits tyvm) and re-invested in JG @ 14/1 on the Sportsbook. Not priced up anywhere else at the moment.

I'm just coming at this from a different angle here but I couldn't lay Il Est Francais because of the recent history of spectacular performances by French-trained horses on British soil.

This horse himself in the novice chase on the card last year

Big Rock in the QE2
Calandgen in the King Edward VII
Goliath in the King George
Topgear in the Newmarket G2 in October

And these horses won looking like they'd just joined in at the furlong pole.

And not just on British soil but also on their home soil against UK / Irish opposition:

Ramatuelle more recently in the Foret, another which looked like it had just joined in at the furlong pole

Any more performances like the ones above then they might want to think about bottling the French air and selling it to British trainers!
