The PDC have offered the Dj a wild card entry into the world darts comp, over Christmas.
Having read his column today in the post, they were impressed with his dart throwing.
When challenged by Tom Kerr to write a column about how to improve racings appeal,DJ got out his tungsten’s and littered the board.
No numbers were missed,he literally peppered the board.
Racings obsession with kids/family friendly entertainment is crazy.its an adult envoirment, Booze and betting being the main themes of most race days.
The cost of bouncy castles, children’s entertainment, must surely not be financially viable.for the odd,10 famililies that do attend. The longer term goal of get them hooked early dosent wash,as when they grow ,the trip to a bouncy castle ain’t going to attract them.plus they don’t drink or bet,so it’s pointless.
Gaps between races,is what it is,it’s needed,for logistical reasons,plus toilet,bar,paddock,form look,betting reasons.
It’s not a family day out, they won’t increase interest from families, maybe the odd one off fun day.might work as a taster, but not as the norm.
Pundits, listening to 2 blokes droning on about each horses chance over the speakers would just seem tiresome.if you’re at the track,no one would listen, like you would sat at home in front of the tv.
What dosent happen is
Why not put a race on the big screen from the other track, why not feed in the itv, racing tv coverage in between gaps.
Punters have to go to the on course shop to find out what’s going on at Cheltenham etc,so there’s 100s huddled around small tv s in corners, when they could big screen it and commentary from the bigger,or smaller meeting,if it dosent impact on their info on their meeting.
I know the odd very big race might be shown, but not many ,if any.espically now there’s premier fixtures,so show them.
So the 30 minute wait is reduced to 15 mins,if the other main race is shown.
If there’s 5 k at small meeting, surely they all want to see the class 2 hcp from ascot, etc aswell.plus it masks the crap class 5 card they are attending,it would add a bit of glamour to the 5 runner class 5/6 card they’ve got.
Make a day at the track ,a day for all the racing, not the one just on show.
Totally agree, no races should ever be more than 30 mins apart, 35 to 40 is boredom central. Am sure have seen races from other tracks on big screen from other tracks before, Exeter do it I think? Should definitely be the thing everywhere. People go for the racing to see horses and/or bet/drink. Nothing else. Thankfully Newton Abbot soon stopped their nonsense of having someone preview the day/talk in paddock over the speaker, this imo is the most irritating thing a racecourse could do. They are only basically reading aloud the racecard, at home we can mute them, unfortunately on track we can't. Cheltenham stupid music is annoying too. STOP IT racecourses, just provide racing/betting/food/drink and somewhere to sit!
