Well must be as they have paid out at 5/4, which i took and 11/4 for over 2 lengths, won by over 3 lengths.

you don't get many winning by over 3L on the flat so that was a rare gem

So from your example Leif, where is the to win by 1 length and under option which in this case would be around 9/2? Surely that should be an option too?
Report leif December 13, 2024 7:15 PM GMT
Don't follow your logic to be honest.

If you bet Team A (-3) to beat Team B in a rugger game and team A won by just 2 points, but you weren't offered Team A (-1) as an option, would you feel aggrieved?
Report TheGoddess December 13, 2024 7:29 PM GMT
In the Rugby game I would have the option of backing Team B with a start or a handicap draw, i.e. ALL OPTIONS are covered. In addition there are many alternative handicap markets available.

In WH's lengthen your odds, NOT ALL OPTIONS are covered, as there is no 1 length and under available.

I'm sure if the 9/2 I quoted was available there would be plenty takers or is it WH just trying to hide the poor value this bet offers by not showing all the distance possibilities?
Report leif December 13, 2024 7:41 PM GMT
Betting the nag to win by a length or under wouldn't be 9/2 though surely.

A hoss to win by a length or less over the bare minimum trip would be the most likely range given the proclevity of jocks to win cosiloy, comfortably on the snaff etc but rarely do they go overboard.

Yeah it SHOULD be 9/2, which means the bookmaker is laying the horse (to win the race) at a slightly shorter price than 2/5, 3/8 in this example, but if offered I think we all know WH would only be 3/1 at best (making the horse to win a 1/4 chance).

As we know, these exotics are only out there to increase bookmaker profits, they are offered at massive overrounds, and I'm sure they don't appeal to many who are clued up.

The easiest way to explain this blatant exploitation is that if a horse was 1/1 to win a race then, for example, it should be 3/1 to win by "up to and including X lengths" and 3/1 "to win by over X lengths" (as 2 x 3/1 shots is equivalent to an 1/1 chance), but the bookmakers will bet both options at 2/1, hence making the 1/1 shot a 1/2 chance which subsequently increases their profit margin.

All I would want to see is all options offered by WH as currently you can only bet the horse to win or to win by options of over 1 length, so their current distance market is not a complete book.

I'm still a non player though!
