Lack of top Chasers in UK also Betfair Chase affects the Quality of runners imo, seems a shame when its worth 147000 to winner.

..and Springbok. Highly thought of in his day, 1962/Neville Crump if I recall correctly. He kind of stood out physically, looked a bit different.

The problem is once something gets changed it rarely gets changed back because it means people who make decisions admitting they got it (badly) wrong. Sadly, we are much too far down the line to even think about changing now. Those great names did run in those races because these races provided a relatively big pot, horses ran more often, were not so bothered about ground, and of course there were not a million other options. The Hennessy for the most part lost the Grade 1 chasers conceding weight, and we had to be content in just seeing the odd progressive second season chaser (who might progress into a Gold Cup horse) in the field. Now all we have is an average bunch of handicappers. I wouldn't put up a pot of 25,000 for this year's renewal.

Change is a terrible thing for some, concrete uprights, wooden rails, no back protectors or minimum standard helmets, pinfiring horses legs, blistering etc etc!!
