Who is taking over the reins?? Been busy past few weeks if this has been confirmed have missed it. My hero growing up was Sir Michael Stoute. The great rivalry of Stoute v Cecil and I was always in the Stoute camp although Im a massive fan of Sir Henry Cecil also....2 absolute legendsHappy

Not only a whimper there, but also not had winner in last 5 runs last 14 days runners...whimper indeed.

Is this another - 'last runner gamble' horse though here? or just another whimper to retire on?

Hopefully he gets a winner before he goes

I also loved the rivalry with Sir Henry back in the day.

I would like to see Sir Michael go out with a winner. Wanderlust is a terrible price though; needs to improve for the distance against higher rated stayers.

Not a terrible price if it's somehow been 'decided' Mischief

Or is the legend's last runner not that notable I wonder?

He's had some great horses, many happy memories.

He nearly became bbc racing correspondent, thank goodness he went
into training.

Good luck to him

what a Career at least he knows when to quit, fair play to him for that.
Report swiftynifty November 6, 2024 4:05 PM GMT
ran like his recent career, under pressure, weakening, tailed off. Great trainer over several decades, should've really quit a fair while back.
Report stu November 6, 2024 4:07 PM GMT
Last in a class 6 would be a fair indicator of needing to give the game up in any case! Laugh

One of the very best trainers of my lifetime and no point dwelling on this last two bob affair.
Report stu November 6, 2024 4:25 PM GMT
True, though you wonder why he didn't retire at a higher point, e.g. potential big meeting or runners...
Report stu November 6, 2024 4:27 PM GMT
Not sure why you'd continue for a run of mediocre runners at the end - just pass it over surely...

Who am I to question his reason for carrying on to the end of the season is just the way I see it.

Kia Joorabchian has submitted a bid for Sir Michael Stoute’s Freemason Lodge stables in Newmarket with the owner seeking a larger premises for his growing racing enterprise.

Stoute has been based at Freemason Lodge on Newmarket’s Bury Road since the 1970s but is set to vacate his long-time base following his retirement from training.

The property, which shares a driveway with neighbouring Carlburg Stables, the home of Roger Varian, who had a number of horses removed by Joorabchian this year, was last valued at “over £1 million” in 2016, according to Land Registry documents. At least two other parties are rumoured to have made bids, the Racing Post understands.

Joorabchian said his interest in the property came as part of his increased presence in the sport and ambitions to regularly compete in its biggest races.

As well as having horses with 16 trainers in Britain, the owner has operated his own Amo Training Centre, overseen by Raphael Friere from the 38-box Felstead Court Stables in Lambourn, but he believes he has outgrown the stable.

“We have been looking actively both in the Lambourn and Newmarket area for growth in both stud and training ventures,” Joorabchian told the Nick Luck Daily podcast. “We’ve made an offer and that needs to get accepted. I don’t want to jump the gun. We are in the mix and if we don’t get it we’ll continue looking.”

This year Joorabchian has spent more than £43m on horses alongside partners including Sheikh Joaan Al Thani, Anthony Ramsden and Evangelos Marinakis, who accompanied Joorabchian during his blockbuster spending at the Tattersalls Book 1 sale and to recent US auctions in Kentucky.

Joorabchian has also expanded his stallion interests with King Of Steel, Bucanero Fuerte and Go Bears Go being retired to stud this year. His Persian Force has stood at stud since 2023.

Any news yet on what Sheikh Mo intends to do with Warren Place?

Is it possible he might buy Freemason Lodge and leave that standing empty too?
