Ana Emaraaty, bred to stay middle distances, is a winner at a mile at Newcastle, has also placed over 10f here, and he was running on at the finish in one attempt at 12.5f last year, and now Jim wins with the horse on its first attempt at 6f, albeit in a 0-54.

I don't know if they're running that big money competition on the AW that Jim missed out on last season with Bonito Cavalo, but Ana Emaraaty could be a good contender for it if they are, given he's starting from a lowly mark, is evidently incredibly versatile regarding trip, and is by a sire whose progeny tend to improve with age.

Once again, the Horse of the Year prize will pay prizes to the top twenty horses across the season. First place will receive £100,000, with £75,000 for second and £50,000 for third. The horse placed twentieth overall will win £10,000.

No doubt plenty will be targeting this, the top prize last season was won by Artisan Dancer's connections. Jim has shown during the Sunday Series this summer that he can lay them out for these juicy bonuses.

I wondered about his Annandale for this, given he'd plummeted in the ratings and was catching the eye under an inexperienced apprentice, but they did go and win with him eventually on turf, and when he ran at Newcastle the other day he finished a well held third, though he might not have been suited by how the race panned out.

Big Jim is truly amazing.

He always snaffled a stable staff lunch voucher at Musselburgh and cashed it in at the burger van.

Despite his focus on stuffing his coupon, he was always happy to provide 'one for the Placepot Jim' and never put us away. Not always one of his own runners nor an obvious odds on shot. Top bloke.

Big Jim is the man, never had a bet tonight.
Great to see him win with American Affair at Royal Ascot and loads of winners tonight with classy sympathetic rides.
