Always respect your views Elis but let's be honest here even if COT wins 10 lengths , breaks course record and the future proves it to be a great race , it still wouldn't impress you because you've already made your mind up about COT and you're quite the opposite of an Aidan fan.

thats very true Hayden,   ps i agree that Aiden is a top class super trainer, but really is doing it imho in a poor era , where competition in trainers and horses really are not in the same league as in the  70s to 2000 in particilar,    plus i honestly think that Cot will romp home on Saturday

There has been an unprecedented support for City Of Troy reported by bookies. Is this a red herring to induce UK punters? Who in their right mind will back CoT away from home, an entirely different surface and at a skinny price?

I hope he wins, but I'll not have a bet as his price is too short on this occasion. Lake Victoria and Notable Speech (one tonight and one tomorrow) are my bets for the entire meeting.

I’m kind of leaning towards him now.

What are we really debating here? Whether or not he can translate his turf performances to dirt? Well…he’s a Justify so why not.

That’s literally it…if he handles the dirt (we’ll find out in the first 100 yards or so) then he’ll take some stopping.

Here’s a stat - since the main track was re done at Del Mar just around 10 years there have been  12 G1s over 10f on the dirt…8 won by horses in the lead or on the lead, 3 by those just slight off of it and 1 deep closer.

So if he does a York 2 he’ll be in good shape.

The other issue is Aidan’s record in the race but I dunno most of those weren’t in the same league as Troy…like Hold that Tiger…lol I had soft spot for that one but he weren’t no classic horse.

I’m going for the 3 inside to finish 1-2-3

I think Forever Young in 1 misses the break but stays on well for a place.

City of Troy to break well and hold the 2 horse Highland Falls in but I’m expecting Arthur’s ride to circle wide, lead and clear off with Fierceness chasing him.

I think those 2 will burn each off and Ryan will get first run on Highland Falls with Forever Young finishing hand over fist.

I’m going for the supers so I’ll try a figure out a 4th place…maybe Serria Leone? Flavian Prat has been world class all year.

Ps I’m having a saver on Arthur’s Ride…if Bill Mott has got him A1 again and he clears off, Troy falters in the dirt and no one goes after him then this might be end up being a solo time trial win for him.

I hope Ryan waits on him as I predict a pace collapse upfront.

Seb Sanders on Sky yesterday had grave doubts about stall 3 as recent winners have all come 3 wide up the straight and American jockeys will keep Ryan close to the rail.

I'd like to see the horse wins, just his connections I'm not fond of. Just too much horsey talk (waffle), excuses and eulogies to promote their brand.

I like Notable Speech. I think on this better ground he'd atone for his underperformance in France. Porta Fortuna is a worthy adversary.

Bookies laughing all the way to the bank. The horse broke badly, and never in contention after. A wasted trip for connections. However, the winner was owned by Coolmore too; just the wrong horse (2nd string). Anyone backed him?

Never made any attempt whatsoever after useless start.

Southwell  training run didn't help

You would think the Coolemore boys at times know very little.  Running CoT on this surface now looks baffling

They ran it cos they had a good un in sierra,so the outcome for cot was if it wins great if not we win anyway ....

Coolmore also bought stallion rights of Fierceness pre-race.

That's called managing one's position. I'm sure some players do the same here with their bets/positions.

I get Aiden saying his charge was behind the 8 ball after the start, but the lad never went a yard on that surface.

Wasn’t like  no other horses came from the back on the night.

If ever there was an example of a horse not acting, this was it.

It was a bad preparation - unprofessional and arrogant - if I was being critical. I do not think connections will ever embark on a similar attempt in the future; once bitten, twice shy (or deserved ridicule next time).

No horse trained in the British Isles has ever won the Classic on dirt. The WAS a Rench winner at huge odds back in the 90s.
I doubt I will live to see another one from Europe win. It would probably help if they put an American jockey on though.

Ravens Pass won the 2008 Classic ridden by Dettori but it wasn't dirt. The Americans quickly tore up the Tapeta as they really don't like Europeans winning it. That was my only day at the Breeders Cup and the Europeans had a field day. Conduit, Goldikova, Mukannah and Donativum completed a 5 timer for Europe.

Conduit not such a memorable day for Money Tree as i recall , great lay thread from the good old humorous days on the forum

He had a great recovery mission though , following a bad lay at 100 he could recoup by laying a couple of 60+ shots so must have one hell of a staking plan   

ive always thought he was backing when he said he was laying, or  certainly on some of the mega priced ones, that way he once in a while pocketed a big win and started a thread which would get 1000 replies

Yes a few thought that but guess we'll never know unless he comes clean.
