Why does nobody question the tactics of Skelton and O'Brien in bumpers? It's just idiotic. No reason whatsoever that they couldn't sit much closer. It's almost as if they don't want to win.

A lot of them don`t. To many it`s just a learning curve. Personally, I wouldn`t bet on a Bumper race.
A good percentage of my winnings used to come from these races, so it was possible.
Skelton and O'Brien are not the only culprits, but they are the regular standouts. Presumably, the owners haven't backed them to win, and will only do so when they are given the green light at which point tactics might well change. It's basically sticking two fingers up at punters. There's nothing in the rule book to suggest you can try any less in these races than any others. You don't see Willie Mullins' bumper horses giving the opposition ten or more easy lengths start. Winning a bumper first time doesn't have a detrimental effect on his runners. Of course sometimes the horses will have enough ability to defy the idiot tactics, but a punter has no idea which one's those will be.
The idea that their two horses yesterday might have had an easier time than the winner would be for the birds. She was ridden economically, they weren't.
