Hennessy my fav race of the season , partly because you know the proper horse racing has finally arrived   Happy

Fav memory of the great race has to be the photo finish between Red vs Red in 1973 , anyone remember ?

Thanks Hayden for that brilliant video of the battle of the reds. I remember that race as if it were run yesterday. First time I`ve seen that in years.

Great stuff.

Cheers Hayden. Eddie CR puts up some great video's and was kind enough to send me a CD with the video of the 1981 Sun Alliance some year ago, a race I backed the winner in but had never seen.

A mate bet £400 on Kildimo and we watched in an independent bookmakers called Inkpens in Redhill, apparently frequented by Ronnie Biggs in the 60's. Paul Nicholls gave Playschool a great ride he always looked like horse that might go to the top, but sadly got injured running on fast ground at Haydock in 1988/89 season. David Barons had expressed misgivings about the ground but felt under pressure to run, a decision he bitterly regretted as the horse never fully recovered.

Mixed emotions regarding Playschool , backed at 14/1 forthe Hennessy the week or so before as thought i'd reverse form with Kildimo but in the 1988 Gold Cup had it 33/1 many many months before the race in an each way singles and double with Celtic Shot for the Champion Hurdle also 33/1 , used PTS phone bookmakers in those days ( anyone remember them )

Think the biggest fright i had though was seeing Classical Charm come there on the snaff at the last but Celtic Shot ran like a gun barrel straight to the line , was there that day in what was probably the windiest day i've ever attended any meeting.

Great memories though , enough to make me the Celtic Shot win again   Happy

Reckon elis that....

Hennessy Gold Cup = Coral Gold Cup

Mackeson = Paddy Power Gold Cup

Massey Ferguson = Virgin Bet Gold Cup

Purely on memory , i try to remember the new sponsors as we need someone to sponsor this fading sport.

Remember For Auction to be in the Gaye Brief and Daring Run vein in that they seem to fill gaps in the middle of the historic greats either side like Monksfield / Sea Pigeon and then later Dawn Run / See You Then.
