he can't compete with the ***** ******
|
By:
like he said without naming names" didnt think some of the big boys were playing on a level field "
|
By:
He trains for his own family or himself, no pressure to deliver winners at all.
|
By:
Must be a very very wealthy man
|
By:
got the 50/1 ,( shame no exchange then) on Jet ski lady
|
By:
is he ever going to name names ?
if he's so wealthy then no worries about being done for voicing his opinions about other trainers. |
By:
im sure we know who he meant!
|
By:
He trained for Godolphin as recently as 4 years ago

Over 80 now, probably winding down the place for a well earned rest. He bought a Bishops Mansion about 15 miles south of Carlow and developed it into a fine training centre.
Visited the yard once and got shown round the place. Think it was the year St Jovite won the King George. Met him on a few occasions, he once told me that the problem with the English was that we did not have a written constitution. Was going to name mention The Magna Carta but thought better of it. Probably a wise move. A totally self made man, left the family farm in Oilgate near Enniscorthy with nothing and built a fine career as a Trainer and Breeder. Good luck to him. |

Did Godolphin not buy a Derby winner off him for mega bucks? I believe he also retained a share of him or negotiated a percentage breeding share.
|

Yes he has had a great career but it is only very recently that I have noticed that he is no longer a player. Not sure about why UK needs a written constitution or how it would affect racing in Ireland.
|
By:
He stands stallions / or used to , and has a band of broodmares so a lot of his were homebreds but I understand his grandfather daughter is doing breezers maybe they are selling the nice homebreds now and not retaining them to train ?
I don't know, just taking a stab in the dark as to maybe why he has no decent horses this year ? |
By:
Has done well since the days of training near the Phoenix Park. Who remembers a horse called Clash of the Ash?
|

|
By:
Just to add Noel Chance also started training in that same area. He was told off more than once for galloping his horses in the Polo grounds.
|
By:
Was the owner a cork goalkeeper

New Approach and Dawn Approach probably the best that Bolger bred.
|
By:
For Bolger to win 5 Dewhurst in a short period as a self-made man is an incredible feat
|

I remember Jim winning the Victor Ludorum at Haydock when it was a proper class race with J P (John) Harty riding. Can't remember the name of the horse but bumped into John Harty outside an Indian restaurant in Ballsbridge a few days before and he told us to have a good bet
