Let's hope we don't ever end up with live whip DQs. Wouldn't be able to keep up with whip strikes too when playing in the run!

hope the owners had a good bet on it to compensate for losing the prize money if you had manxman in an ante-post multi going on to ascot next week surely you should be paid out when it gets the race prior to the next leg? wont of course, but should in theory only plus is that horrible canute tony martin doesnt nick another big hcap |

Strange they allow Stewards to make subjective decisions on the day but not when it's obvious (when watching replays). Even gin soaked stewards can count past 6.
|
|
By:
exactly mitolo, the stewards on the day have managed to count them, what's the problem with calling it on the day, none. There are never extenuating cicumstances, ten is ten.
|
|
By:
It`s not too difficult to count to six.

...how about 'I had to give him the last 2 smacks as he made a noise and I needed to wake him up, I felt he might be going to collapse from under me and cause a big pile up in behind? Surely worth a go in the current climate.

Could kill a lot of betting if they throw out horses immediately. Loads of arguments about whether the whip made real contact. They would also have to look at the placed horses and see if there were whip offences. Can you imagine how long these inquiries could go on for ? You might end up with more than one disqualification and then you would need to assess if the ones being promoted were in the clear before announcing the revised result to bemused spectators who wouldn't have a clue what was going on.
|

By:
Agreed, pompey. Totally unworkable and cannot be considered.

Loads of arguments about whether the whip made real contact
if the arm goes up and down it was intended as a strike, it really wouldn't take that long to count all runners, have someone do it from HQ. |

rico gona count how many cracks in his opinion.

100% 10 cracks.

We entrust stewards to adjudicate on very difficult matters of judgement as to whether horse A has caused sufficient interference with horse B to reach a decision upon whether or not the result should stand. This involves complex views as to the pace, position, course topography, momemtum and ground conditions. It is a decision reached on many, many moving parts. Nobody argues that the decision on course is to be regarded as the settled betting result. In contrast, what appears to be an uncontested breach of the whip rules cannot be used as a reason to amend the result. Even if it where contested, the act of counting the number of strikes is infinitely easier than deciding on on the issues in my previous paragraph. Full disclosure, a very decent the on the 2nd. I feel somewhat cheated. My view was always that I saw no reason why the stewards could not decide on the day about whip rule breach and amend accordingly. Punters would simply accept that it was another breach which caused an amendment. The same as (relatively) minor interference.
Today will cause a rethink I feel. Too late for me and many punters but that is just the way it is. Hope I am on the right side one day I also hope some bookmakers will take a view on the amended result. A "justice refund". I am not holding my breath! Good luck to me and you all the next day. |

I'd imagine the vast majority of punters would have been aghast at the prospect of horse being disqualified because its jockey went over the permitted number of strikes.
But the agenda people (ie those on the road to banning the whip) realised this so were clever about it and decided that we'll tell them...Oh, it won't affect betting, cuz the decision won't be made until the following week. So that's how they got away with bringing it in, in the first place. Mission creep, you could call it. Then they just had to wait until a fancied horse was on the receiving end of one of these decisions then the punter-plebs would be demanding on-the-day disqualification, and hey presto, some of you on this thread haven't disappointed them. |
