I'm old enough to remember when 5f & 10f races were a regular part of Kempton AW cards.

I think they still do have the odd 5f race there, swifty, but not sure about 10f races any more, though.
to be honest I hadn't noticed they weren't using it often, but you're right it was such a big thing when it first opened, and then the cut away on the outer course.
5F inside draw, front runner - licence to print. A long time between drinks nowadays.
