provincial tracks use 3 geezers who have a combined weight of around 90 stone.  one of them was even found to be more morbidly obese than rico dangleflaps.

bigger stalls. Bigger stalls handlers. None of them standing around watching everyone try and load a rag from a rubbish trainer. All of these are capable of being introduced here. But we won't.

Well far be it for us to tell the BHA its job but the big turn off for the wider tv public is that they spend less time watching a big race than its runners trying to duck out of it at the stalls beforehand. And a good proportion of viewers are on the side of the animals or, at least, don't wan't reminding that the animals are being forced to perform for their gratification.

Just saying ..get your act together RaceTech.

The horses probably prefer a day out at the races ,than stood in a stable or field all day.

UB , I couldn't agree more. When you see the American racing or Aussie even, they all manage to load them up first time without fail.
So the issue is our stalls . Too narrow and uninviting .

A friend is riding in Oz so i occasionally watch their racing and hats off to the Aussies because if their race time is 15:17, the race goes off at 15:17.
I always thought it wasnt possible to run a race on time as horses are so unpredictable, but the Aussies have it down to a T.

If they can manage it so can we , but it needs the powers to be to use their brain cell and watch how other countries do it and learn from it.

Certain trainers horses hardly ever have problems but as ever on here nobody seems to think it's got anything to do with the training at home.

Evening Sparrow, certainly some trainers are very good with them, but any 2yo can get in a tizz on the course and not go in regardless of satisfactory practice at home.
A lot of the sprinters are such nut jobs they have the same issues.
Some will always be difficult to load.
Surely the answer is to have better stalls ?

My understanding is ( and I'm happy to be corrected on this) the only reason we have these horribly uninviting stalls in this country is because they were designed to be towed by a vehicle in the road to move them on the roads from course to course.
Even the Irish ones with the tops cut off are a lot more inviting than ours.

The stalls are too small here the handlers are too small and weak and no one gives a flying parp about getting off on time. It was a pleasure to watch the French guys today, no hassle no delay just getting it done. Same in US and Oz. It's so unprofessional here - and it upsets Ed Chamberlin!

I am sure that training at home is a factor but French and American stalls seem to give far less trouble than ours. Less noise and more space. You were watching elite horses at Longchamp though which tend not to give as much trouble. I have seen inexperienced 2yos play up in France. As the season goes on, maiden races have more difficult ones to load as trainers decide that they will have to give it a try even if they are a problem at home. A £50k yearling that won't go into stalls is worth about £500.

Fair point but the two year-olds today loaded sweet as a nut.

The stall width issue is governed by bookmaker interests.

The more runners the better because, uniquely, GB/Irish bookie interests are allowed to increase their profit margins on a % per runner basis.

That may be the answer staring us in the face.

The closer the stalls, the larger the maximum field, the bigger the profit margin.

UB, very droll, but you probably just about hit the nail on the head with that one !  Well done.

Someone once told me that we can't have wider stalls in the UK because when they are shared around regional groups of tracks, access is such that a wider set of stalls would be too big for some of the roads. No wonder our racing is fading away.

The various ruling organisations are outdated, pathetic and hamstrung by procedure and egos. OH, wait a second...that sounds like the majority of companies and organisations in the whole country nowadays. Add on heaps of 'woke' and political correctness and I am surprised the UK has not ground to a halt by now!

I think there was a thread on this before sometime ago and  i said at the time that it is mostly the rags in poor class races trained by some crappy trainer who maybe trains 1 winner a year that gives the most problems at the stalls.

I've never seen horses blindfolded for stalls entry anywhere else. It happens just about every race

here.

Courses should own their own sets of stalls which would allow for greater width. Without having to

transport the stalls the superstructure could be less and, as in Ireland make the stalls more 'open'

and less intimidating.

Hey, but the powers to be know best. Heaven forbid that they should admit that anything in racing

is done better in other parts of the World.

Average loading time in the U.S. about 30/45 seconds. Average here probably 3/4 minutes.

The worst behaved so far today was the winner of the first at Yarmouth when Tom Marquand had a real battle with Fernando. Fourth run but got in a real strop so well done Tom although he beat my bet.

Every poster on this thread is correct with their observations and comments.  All suggested solutions are valid and worth following, BUT and this is the really stupid part , we are just the idiots on a forum, yet our solutions are better than those put forward by those in power...

Strange world when the spectators would do a better job of running a sport than its own governing body.

Our stalls handlers are all vertically challenged ex stable lads, jocks, and the reason we can't use bigger lads is because the stalls are so small normal size people can't fit in them as well as the horse.
Again surely showing uk stalls are outdated / not fit for purpose..

Another safety issue with uk stalls - I don't think there is a worse sight in racing than when a horse goes down in the stalls.
I always pray they aren't going to break a leg

I don't know what happened there but the end of my post gor cut off !

As I was saying , I always pray they aren't going to break a leg as they have a horse either side of them with their legs within a couple of feet of their thrashing legs.
Yet I have never seen a horse go down in the USA or aussie stalls , or the Irish stalls either from memory, though I am happy to be corrected.

Wasn't it because of the pandemic that they had to change to load one horse at a time? Seems ridiculous to me seeing them all watching each other loading the stalls,
