Now the ring is so boring with very little variation in prices. I seldom go racing anymore for that reason but am going to go to Catterick on Wednesday and Hexham on Friday to tick another 2 courses off the list. My favourite time to go racing was circa 1990 to early 2000s. Lots of the books have died or got out of the game, some continue. The ones i can easily remember..... bookmakers who had an online presence Blue square, bought by Betfair, represented by that cutey who went to become Hills spokesperson. Betdirect i think were on course? Hills, Corals, Ladbrokes, Stanley (i think?) Tote represented by the nice blonde who works at Chelmsford for Fred. Sunderlands. Manny Bernstein. Stan James, Victor Chandler represented by permatan man. Then there was Tom Fruit (RIP) Alan of Preston, Alan Bennett, Neville Porter (thank god i never bought those shares!) Chronicle Bookmakers, Colin Armes (whos Son hated it if you attempted to look at their P/L). A scruffy long haired guy with a saggy gut who worked with his wife. They argued constantly and he always bet to a minimum of 130%. George Campbell (?) George Mendoza (?). Matt. Joe O'Goreman, Bryan Hazell. Bob Stock (?) Dan Hague (?) Barry Dennis, loved the girl who worked for him (Angela?) Micky Fletcher. Gary Wiltshire. Freddie Williams. So many ive forgotten due to alcohol related dementia.
No offers simply meant the bookie was not accepting bets until the info he was waiting for materialised to adjust his book, it still happens on course but electronically as opposed to tic tac!
