Thank god for that...i never have to a self discussion over whether to back one of his mounts ever again.
I wish the lad a long and enjoyable retirement. |

Surely he'll have 1 teed up for him.

Watched him at Chester on Saturday.
In 3 races, post-race, thought 'you were possibly on the best horse there Franny' Unfortunately, he didn't win any of them. |

Franny used to be a standing dish on Gosden horses in handicaps at Royal Ascot, won me a lot of money. Hope he enjoys his retirement.

By:
His pal Fannning should retire with him, another good jockey well past his best.
By:
Yeah he has had a good go 36 years, the Charlie Johnson way is they are using a lot more jockeys and he is not getting the rides or winners so he will have found it frustrating and his time is up, it was a great edge when he was riding the low weights in handicaps in the old days and he won’t be skint, he was a clever man, good luck to him as I didn’t think he was a puller

"When you're riding at my level, the game retires you."
In his own words, right there. "A lot of people call it a day due to a battle with the scales but I've had a battle to get on them. I was still fit and hungry for it but if the opportunities aren't coming all you're doing is blocking the pathway to your next chapter." Billy Loughnane has had more rides for the Johnston yard than Norton has this year, even though Loughnane isn't short of rides elsewhere. As Norton says, the game retires you. |

Frank is going out on a high. Frank is gonna have at least 2 winners at Chester.
By:
No doubt jets will help him move on,remember that scheme.

His last race at Chester named after him put in short fav, every man and his dog is on, will it be after you sir or as Charlie brave heart can’t place em are they going to get it wrong, I would be they get it wrong at a false price, so if you get it wrong it’s not going to cost a lot but it’s a puzzler and no surprise either way

Franny Norton is the only jockey I have ever met.
It was at Aintree on the day that Mon Mome won the National. As I was leaving, he was stood outside smoking. Just as he didn’t like to waste any ground going wide at Chester, he didn’t like to waste any of his cigarette either. I noticed that he had smoked it well past the writing, right down to the filter. I said hello to him, introduced myself as a fan, and shook his other non cigarette holding hand. It was the best day of my life. Great to see him finish on a treble at Chester yesterday, and wish him a very happy and well deserved retirement. |
By:
Was he Geoff Wragg's apprentice?
By:
How the best day of life rooster
By:
Was at Chester yesterday, great to see a big crowd for Franny and to ride a treble on last day must of been brilliant for him, all the best whatever you do in your future.
By:
nice book of rides including 3 any jockey riding in Britain would've won on.
Franny should've told the trainers he was retiring every day, he'd have been champion jockey 20 years on the trot ... |
By:
how many rides has Franny had for haggis before today ?
By:
Not too bad.
56 -( 11 W - 13 Plcs). |
By:

He's having some time off and then is going to do some part time work with Ann and George Duffield.
