It's not hard to get your house in order and send the right message out.

An undesirable owns a racehorse and instructs the jockey to lose and then threatens him and the trainer.

Punishment ?

6 years and 7 years ban.

What message does this send out ?
You're a toe rag but in 6 years time you will have  become a nice individual that we would like to welcome back into our sport ?

No, you're an undesirable scum bag and we don't want your thuggery on our racecourses , have a life time ban and don't come back , should have been the message given out.

So much wrong with racing... They have the rules in place to ban undesirables yet don't have the gumption to use them.

Am I wrong ?
What does anyone else think their punishment should be ?

I know Acey and that's whats wrong with this country.

It's like feral Lynch and Betfair Eddie getting their licenses back. Would you ever trust either of them 100% not to do the same again ? Noooo.

They are rotten apples and if you have a rotten apples it will slowly infect the rest of the barrel unless you throw it out.

The gambling commission is still investigating people who put £100 on an election date, but ignores this and the many other examples of cheating.

Racing is bent by default. Owners , trainers and worst of all jockeys. That is because like everything else now a days , it is just a business and anyone involved in business is trying to make money.
The biggest downfall of horse racing is now the betting exchanges , an easy trouble free licence for all involved with the trainers, owners and riders able to make whatever money they want. It doesnt pay for trainers to be honest with horses , especially in the lower grades.
Report oneten September 12, 2024 3:11 PM BST
I am too Acey, but for minor infringements . If a jockey is caught backing his mount or the passing of information etc. Or banned under the totting up procedure, or dope tested all fine to have a second or third chance as they are minor misdemeanours that don't undermine the very fabric of the sport.

But owners threatening and instructing trainers and jockeys to lose and bent jockeys losing races to order undermine the whole lifeblood of the sport and shouldn't be welcomed back.
Lifetime ban only way to go to act as a deterrent .

Same with athletics and 100mts sprinters - would you want to run against them after they've served a ban for drugs or would you feel cheated if you lost to them ?

Sorry but I believe some things dont deserve 2nd chances if they threaten the very integrity of the sport.

It's very interesting to hear other opinions.

Agree with oneten for this kind of offence.

Any owner threatening a jockey and/or a trainer to lose any race should be warned off indefinitely regardless. There should be no half-measure for a behaviour of this kind. As in this case the individuals are bad for racing entirely with no mitigation.

No loss to horseracing UK sadly for 7-years only. The punishment is extremely lenient for their behaviours.

Betfair,s USP was it was the purist form of betting, betting your opinion against a fellow punter, that falls away when you could be betting against connections provy to inside info you arnt
defenders of Betfair say that's always been the case, but Betfair wasn't sold to people saying that was always the case, although possible how many connections/stable hands etc worked out the maths  and went around the ring /betting shops betting every other horse in the race to win ?

To threaten a jockey and/or a trainer to lose a race in horseracing is equivalent to 1st degree murder. This crime could carry the death penalty in some countries.

The biggest downfall of horse racing is now the betting exchanges

Untrue. Anyone following the game in the 80s or thereabouts will know it was much worse.
One event from that time that sticks in my mind is a high profile race at a major meeting where both the market leaders failed to make it beyond halfway.
There has never been greater transparency in price movement than on the exchanges.

Is Roston Barney any relative of the "character" Tony Barney whose horses run under Countrywide Park homes? Looks like todays 2 are also in the park homes business.

Doorman you are correct. Large family of pikeys and if you received a death threat from them you would take it seriously. That is why Spiller has relocated to Ireland

Lifetime ban simples.
Shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the sport if integrity is paramount and to act as a warning to others.
Scum like that pair can easily ruin the livelihoods and ambitions of young jockeys trying to carve a career out of a sport that's dying on its aris.

What kind of message does it send out across the sporting fraternity and across the world?

disgraceful leniency shown to sh4tbags IMO

Mrcombustable, that is absolutely awful, hope Spiller can make a go of it out there but should never ever be forced out there by these scum. Always wonder about Nicky Henderson having to come down to Tony Barney's level when his horses run. Seem to remember a report about him gobbing off when paying big bucks for something at the sales.

Going back to the opening thread, how could Havlin and Chancellor find the stall open and then get withdrawn? Something terribly wrong with the BHA governance of our sport.
Report impossible123 September 14, 2024 2:04 PM BST
I think the horse burst the stall open. This is a no-no here. As such, the only option is to withdraw the horse, and settle as a non-runner.
Report sageform September 14, 2024 2:20 PM BST
First job, redesign the stalls. They should not open if a horse just gives them a push.
