Anyone on here take rtv satellite and NOT a sky customer ?

I want to buy an HD skybox  but will need to pair it with my old viewing card.   I read that you can do this online but can you do it if you are not a sky subscriber ?   ( btw I don't want to join Sky/ have a Q box  )  Thanks.
