he takes his instructions from the bloke in the truck stu tbh...
why would you tell him to 'zoom in mate...zoom in mate' ? Toyah couldn't figure that one out imv. |
|
By:
Yep, no idea what directors are doing with this coverage.
It wasn't just the 'zoom in' (though that is a key aspect) but also them showing empty space in front of the leader, instead of showing the field runners behind! |

I'm constantly just grateful I don't pay directly for any of this rubbish they call 'coverage' of racing.
|
|
By:
generally speaking the telly coverage is awful stu...
dodgy angles all over the shop... i'm 100% sure there is a very good explanation for it tbh. |
|
By:
I always have a strong feeling it is being run by people who have 0 understanding of racing - how they qualify to direct/produce it then...??
|
|
By:
the thing is stu...
you might start off having very little understanding of racing... doesn't take long before you know the score tho... most of these folk have been directing from the truck for long enough to know what they should be showing imv. |
|
By:
i mean who in their right mind thinks it's a good idea to show one horse in shot when it's a 12 runner field for example ?
the bloke in the truck is probably about the only person imv. |
|
By:
All true!
|

By:
Kempton is shocking for it stu...
around the cutaway you watch carefully and the zoom in kicks in so that come the line there's normally very few horses in shot... something could be flying down the outside and RTV LV viewers wouldn't know... the only folk who do are drone users and the bloke sat in the truck who has all the angles covered. |
|
By:
Obviously a problem always highlighted more when there is ever a clear leader/winner - but like you say sometimes even close finishes only show the leading few for a lot of the race - which is basically not covering the 'race'
|
|
By:
exactly stu...
there was a 4 runner race at Newmarket on Saturday... first two went away from the filed... zoom in mate zoom in mate... other 2 runners out of shot... one comes flying up the rail and we only knew coz the commentator told us... now work that one out please ? |
|
By:
Dreadful - similar one I recall at Kempton too - winner came from out of shot while they were showing front 3/4 close up.
In any other business it would be considered negligence. |

it's horse racing stu...
nobody regulates anything. |
