Selective is the prudent way forward for your wallets; Premier Racing and Racing League are for bookies and connections. But nothing for punters eg mainly low grade handicaps and restriction on bets still practised religiously.
There is too much horseracing, and most of them are dross put on solely for the benefit of bookies - the paymasters of horsearcing UK.

Well the "Sunday Series" on ITV seems to have bitten the dust which is a positive. The Shergar Cup gets in the way of other more interesting races on a Saturday (such as the Phoenix Stakes which was off only 5 minutes after the Shergar Cup climax. I'd scrap that too and put the unused prize money, appearance money etc into the Racing Leaugue which already produces good competitive races. But this year it is run on consecutive Thursdays which means inevitable clashes with big afternoon meetings at York and Goodwood, which is a mistake because top jockeys will have to miss these dates. I'd cut back on low grade racing generally. Evenings are always less popular than Saturday afternoons and I'd scrap a lot of these evening fixtures. (This would make life easier for stable staff.)
However I will not give any jockey unfair criticism as I was banned from here once and it took 9 years to get back.

roggrain, the impression I got was that it was the wife (now ex) of the jockey in question who came on here and said that we were all being "unfair" to her husband. In hindsight I was mistaken to use the words "incompetent" and "corrupt". I won't comment on this anymore.

A great point , has Starmer scared the sh1te out of the Betfair moderators ?

If your sole interest in racing is betting on it then there will always be losing punters moaning about incompetent officials, jockeys, trainers etc. If your main interest is in horses then the perspective changes. I follow breeders, owners and then trainers in that order when looking for a horse to bet on. The higher the grade of race and the fewer times a horse has run the better I like it. On the negative side, the reliance on betting to generate prize money is regrettable but the same applies in all racing countries. It is only the kind of betting that changes.

The handicap system. full stop. It rewards skullduggeryb and penalises honesty. Claimers are the way forward, where the trainer has to reveal the true ability of his horse in the claiming price.
Way too much racing at lower levels. We need to close smaller racecourses, or maybe turn them into flapping tracks for a sepertate population of lower grade horses, similar to point to point really.
that leaves fewer races, all with decent prize money at top level courses AND THE HORSE POPULATION WILL REDUCE ITSELF OVER TIME BY NATURAL FORCES.
Of course the bookmakers and their stooges the racing post will never let this happen!!

I just wish we had a honest racing press. They all know the score.
Until they are prepared to tell it how it is instead of fawning over the participants and those running the game, nothing will change.

In it's current form the game will be over in a few years, turnover is starting to go down. Too many courses, sell a few and Labour can stick those 1.5 millions home on them
No one seems interested in changing it though
Best in the World

And honest TV media. Makes me scream (internally) when I see bookies mouthpiece on Racing TV (or Sky Racing but rarely watch that) and everyone knows the score. Non-losers (excluding friends in Racing) not wanted.

If you call, out the truth in racing, ie, horses and jockeys not trying and unable to get on for a fiver and other pathetic restrictions, The gravy train ends for you and you'll be isolated and shunned, its a bit like the media, like him or loathe him, Farage speaks the truth and he's hated by the media and press

I agree with Celtic too. I would also replace the handicaps with claimers. But the claiming value should be put on the all form guides (rp, atr etc) after "clm", just as they do on drf cards in America.
