Now a government would make a lot of money if they put a tax of one penny on a text message, and leave the gamblers alone.Grin

Yes brass, 4 million quid I reckon.. telling texters that they've got to pay up to subsidise gamblers may not go down well

Anything else for your "penny tax" system?
Report brassneck August 5, 2024 11:09 PM BST
There has to a catch, lets build 50 new hospitals in london,10  pence tax on posting letters
Report Regbutler August 5, 2024 11:18 PM BST
Brass, don't think you've done your sums there... 10p tax on letters (how many of those these days compared with before) to build 50 new hospitals?

Not saying you're wrong, just seems not right
In theory, raising money by"other taxes", especially very small ones, would not be too unpopular, or unnoticed by most...

Big rich firms send out bills every day by postGrin

The Government could also place a transaction charge of one penny on a debit card every time a card is used ,this would collect millions of pounds a week, but please leave the poor gambler alone.Grin

You cannot tax messages sent to enquire about the health or safety of another person eg a family member or relative. However, I'd agree to a tax on any social media users eg tik-tok (whatever that's); Whatsapp; Tinder; X; etc.

Texts are dead. Been like that years

WhatsApp and the others beat texts by miles
Report impossible123 August 6, 2024 6:41 PM BST
I've never used Whatsapp or any social media. My mobile is only connected to the internet briefly for important info eg emails and stock prices (when out). Otherwise, no internet at all as it's not secure. I do not even use public wifi for the same reason.

Stay off the buses 2. Very dangerous
Report impossible123 August 6, 2024 7:17 PM BST
Buses can be smelly. Some users stink of fried onions and curry spices. The worst is the body odour and the unwashed overcoats of the elderly.
Report brassneck August 6, 2024 9:43 PM BST
one penny tax on all curry spices.Laugh
Report impossible123 August 6, 2024 10:06 PM BST
I love curries and spices but I do not want the smell on my clothes when I go out in public.

@impossible

That's an impressive level of personal cybersecurity, but are you really fussed about the security of sending a WhatsApp message to your friends to ask who is up for a pint tonight or the like?
