I went in my local **** shop on Tuesday morning and asked the cashier for some prices on Goodwood top jockey. He told me there wasn't a market for it and it must be 'online only.' I had a look on one of their machines and couldn't find the market on there. I then went on their website on my phone and found the market under horse racing antepost. Went back to the counter and asked the cashier to look under antepost. He said "Yes I've got it now, what would you like?" I asked him for prices on O Murphy, J Doyle and T Marquand and he quoted 9/2, 9/1 and 20/1, then wrote them on slip and I gave him cash. £90 on Murphy, £60 Doyle and £20 Marquand, so a total of £170.

Went in the shop today to collect £495 for my Murphy win and the cashier scanned the slip and said "well done, that's £360 to come back." I queried why it wasn't £495 and he said the price was 3/1 not 9/2. He then called up trading department and printed out a slip which said the price changed to 3/1 a minute before my bet was placed. Obviously I argued it and refused to accept it was 3/1. He quoted me 9/2 and placed the bet seconds later, if the price had changed then why wasn't I informed? They obviously cut the price after my bets and are now claiming I was too late for the 9/2. If the cashier actually knew his job, then the bet would have been placed 20 minutes earlier. It was his incompetence that delayed me getting the bet on. Then He's literally quoted me 9/2 and written it on slip, taken the money etc...

I had to call a customer service number and they're forwarding to regional manager. What do you think the likelihood is of me getting paid at the 9/2 I took?

Doubtful, although possibly might make a goodwill gesture, computers rule i'm afraid.

Why doubtful? The cashier even admitted when he phoned up, that he remembers me placing the bet and him quoting the prices.

utter filth..they just so as they please..how the fck can they justify a 9/2 > 3/1 top jock price cut before a race is run?

I should have asked for the price history for the other two jockies. You can guaranteed their prices were cut at the same time.

Good luck clarky, but would expect it to be covered in their small print rules, ie) Price will be determined by time on bet slip, whether member of staff has written it or not. Covers them for any mishaps really. Let us know how you get on.

I believe if the staff quoted you 9/2 (not your quote to the staff) then 9/2 was still being displayed on the screen when you're at the counter. As such, you ought to get 9/2.

I think the bookie was trying it on. Good luck!

Take it to IBAS,  but in the meantime, sit in protest in the shop, naked if you want to make the news.

Agree with Rico, if you have no joy getting your money ...

An “old school” regional manager would pay you £495 as a discretionary payment.
I would have done in my day, but in modern times most area managers have no clue about the ethos of bookmaking.

If no joy contact CEO, then IBAS. The area manager will settle without a doubt if the quote was accurate, and by the staff after contacting the trading monkeys.

You could try to contact oddschecker and see if they have the price history. No idea if they will help.

I asked the cashier to look under antepost markets, he then looked at a monitor facing him and read out the prices and put them on slip. There was no mention of 3/1.

Morally 9/2 is the price it just depends if they have any.

They will obviously lie to ibas and ibas will find in their favour. If you managed to get a price history with times from oddschecker, it would support your claim.

The price could not have changed from 9/2 into 3/1 whilst you're at the counter; it's a jockeys event not horses. I think it could only have changed post your bets given your stakes.

Of course the price could change while at the counter you berk.

So what prices did his other two selections go out to ? massive move 9-2 to 3-1 ,so the others must have drifted I would have asked to see the prices on them
By:

When: 04 Aug 24 15:59
9/2 to 3/1 is a shift of 7% therefore the rest of the market should have drifted a total of 7% to maintain the overround.
Whether that actually occurred is another question.

Yes I doubt clarky asked what prices he was Given the other Two ,Had they stayed the same I would have asked how that was Possible

You'll get paid out at 9/2. It's not your fault the bookie staff did not know his/her way on the page selector and monitor. That's the bookie's doing eg insufficient training.

agree with imp, no way would murphy would  be cut  9/2 into 3/1 like that, , this was top jockeys, not a horse race
By:

they could well cut it after his bet , but no way while he was at counter , bookies now £90 bet cutting 9/2 into 3/1Cry

It’s a rick in an exotic market which happens, therefore the price gets altered.

Just had a voicemail message from customer services, saying they're going to pay out at 9/2 and to return to the shop so they can sort out. Common sense prevails.

I think the three I backed went off at 9/4, 6/1 and 10/1.

The traders must have suddenly realised that Moore and Buick were off to America on Friday!

A staff at PaddyPower next to Ganley's in Morden tried to diddle a friend by claiming there was a rule 4 after my friend's selection had won; my friend put his bet on after a new market had been formed.

When challenged he told my friend to keep his voice down. He duly paid up in full; the staff was trying to pocket the difference for himself.

Obviously this was not the case here. Well done 'Clarky9'!

Nah, it was just a young lad behind the counter with no experience. The shop has only been there since March. It was the first bets I've placed with them.
