Alec Voikhansky, the rider of POWER OF TWINS, placed second, beaten by 1 length had failed to ride out to the winning post. After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Voikhansky was suspended for 28 days for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures on a horse which would have finished first.

They should give Cattermole three months for that last commentary.

Clangermole has (over the last year or so) developed this rather annoying twang when he says the letter R...

never used to have that...

very strange indeed.

28 days without pay is a lot for making a mistake at work.

A lot worse happens in life.

without pay ?

he probably gets paid by Hannon to ride out every day...

it's his own stupidity anyway.

I watched it side-on from end of the the stands, down towards the furlong pole, and the winner was absolutely motoring past everything. It looked to have a fair chance of getting  there in time even without the jockey easing up on the one in front. I'm guessing that's how it would have looked on the drone pics, hence the lack of monster prices about the horse.

was defo 'motoring' with the pilot looking for one route after another.

It just got outpaced early, didn't it. I think it was a case of a load of short runners not getting the whole 5f 160 yards up that climb at Bath and falling in a hole, and the winner simply staying on. It just looked like it was 'motoring'.

It's why you really don't want to be easing up on a 2yo at Bath. I remember one top jockey, possibly Pat Eddery, doing it 40 or 50 years ago in a televised race, and getting caught by Trevor Rogers. As a solemn Julian Wilson told us afterwards: there are some hungry jockeys out there, and Trevor Rogers is one of them.

Winner did look to be motoring, but no chance it would have won without winner easing up IMO - a 'nearest at finish' would have been a cert instead.

Jockey on 2nd truly awful - and I didn't have a penny on the race.

"28 days without pay is a lot for making a mistake at work."    ffs barstool.  Mistakes at work don't usually cost people that partly pay your wages possibly  five or even six figures in betting money.  They get much longer bans in Aus. Correct ?
By:

When: 03 Aug 24 11:14
Oh sure, sparrow. I was just trying to explain why the runner-up never went shorter than 1.06. It wasn't a 1.01 shoo-in to win even before Voikhansky stopped riding.

Micky Fitz said there was some nasty abuse being hurled at AV as he walked back to the weighing room.

I'm presuming he's from a well-off family so the poor lad probably isn't used to encountering the irate working classes!

Mistakes made by Doctors, nurses, surgeons, scaffolders, rock climbers etc etc kill people howard.

Jockeys make mistakes every day which can cost them the race, missing the break, getting boxed in, racing too wide, mistiming their challenge, getting too far behind and so on. The lad made one too near the line and yet you want to hang him for it.

Agree with leif, 14 days enough.
By:

When: 03 Aug 24 12:23
It's not a tactical mistake, it's negligence. However jockeys are conditioned not to win too far.

12 momths would be the ban that would solve all imv..
By:

When: 03 Aug 24 16:24
I imagine he's mortified to have made the error. Max 14 day ban for first offence IMO. Throw the book at any repeat offender though.
By:

When: 03 Aug 24 19:00
No rider should have any excuse for not riding out fully and properly, other than horse or jockey injury, which are both fairly rare reasons in reality.
By:
stu
When: 03 Aug 24 19:02
Easing down should also be basically banned as an action during the race - reducing some pressure for the easy winners fair enough, but deliberately slowing your horse should be against the rules.
