Do they go looking for the shoes before next race?

Can't say I have ever heard of someone finding one on a course but have never seen anyone holding one either, never seen one fly up in air either or heard of a jockey  being hit by one or another horse being injured by one.

Or do they work loose and become mangled and stuck in ground?

I think .after the race they get checked , then it gets filtered down to the groundstaff who are doing work on the course anyway.
I have Since them fly up now and again on the telly.

Ive also read that its ok if a hind shoe comes of thats not to bad, however if a front shoe comes off then that aint good.
