don't think i've seen this in race comments before -

Luxembourg

well away, led 1f, tracked leader, led again 4f out, pushed along and headed over 2f out, left gap open for Auguste Rodin over 2f outSilly, hung right and weakened inside final 2f

... AR didnt need a gap, he needed an outboard motor.!

Here's a thing, I noticed that the 3.30 at Ascot on Friday was dominated by those who were away from the rail, and this can be checked in the RP form comments as "outer" is mentioned for the winner and third.

There was only one other race on the round course on Friday and I didn't draw any conclusions from that regarding track position.

You could argue that Friendly Soul made all around the inner, but she could have been a Group 1 filly running in a Group 3.

So hard to be sure, but gut-feeling is that there was something in it.

When you disappoint as often as this horse has done, it's difficult to take any excuses at face value. He never looked to be travelling like a winner, and found next to nothing under pressure.

can hardly be a valid excuse , The Lads knew the Plan , no looking for plan B

totally agree with Drum . Not 1st time it has been devoid of Speed or Momentum

very strange TBH

AOB is assuming responsibility for the below par performance of his charges including Moore. It's only horseracing. I'm sure Auguste Rodin will win another race very soon.

Sour grapes from O’Brien.
Report the dealer July 28, 2024 12:05 PM BST
It's quite funny, with all the criticism of watering and wrong going reports on here, by people no where near the course, when a trainer actually walks the course and comments he doesn't think the ground is as advertised, he gets accused of sour grapes.
Report Pilsudski July 28, 2024 12:11 PM BST
He could have pulled them out then,no ?
Report the dealer July 28, 2024 12:16 PM BST
Yes he could have but that doesn't change, that he thought the going report was wrong.

I've never had him down as anything else as courteous in defeat.
Report barstool July 28, 2024 12:21 PM BST
If he had walked the course before hand, and it sounds as though he did, then he has no excuse for not changing his plan.

No good moaning after the race.

It has been obvious for some time he his using "team tactics", so why his he not pulled in for not running some of his horses on their merits?
Report the dealer July 28, 2024 12:26 PM BST
Again yes he could/ should have but with all the criticism of going reports imho we should be alpauding him for calling it for what it was, as I'm sure many trainers do at minor meetings but haven't the platform he has to do so, or else it will never change.
Hearing his interview, to me it was an observation not a moan.

time analysis determines what the ground was, not what some salesman is trying to lead you to believe it was
goliath was the 5th fastest KG winner since the redevelopment (19 years)...2.27s under std
that's impossible to do with sections of g/s ground

Report wondersobright July 28, 2024 12:55 PM BST
royal ascot ground was g/f round firm straight on the weds

certainly wasn't as quick as that yesterday
more a mix of good & g/f
and the going sticks back that up
Report the dealer July 28, 2024 12:59 PM BST
Harsh but fair,

I don't think I would get away with saying that the slower ground was on the rail and the winner managed to miss it all, so I will eat my large portion of the humble pie based on your informative posts.

I dont think even Aiden knows what makes this Horse tick.

Whatever guys, we're now seeing French horses coming over and producing off the charts performances -

Big Rock in the QE2

Calandagan in the King Edward VII

And now Goliath

And this on the back of Ace Impact producing 'wow' performances in his homeland.

Have they been getting themselves some stiffer gallops?
